I agree with the photo idea. As part of my mother's and mother-in-law's gifts each year they get a brag book of some recent 'best photos.' Both of them always go on and on about how they love the photos and how much they enjoy showing them off. This year I think I'm going to make them each a photobook from www.shutterfly.com. By the way, right now their website is showing 25% off photobooks on the photobooks page.

A picture of the baby doing something wonderful. Depending on the age of the child, you can take a picture of the baby playing with toys or whatever. And also give them hand or feet prints of the baby.

Start a college fund, most kids already have too many toys, and probably won't remember what you got them a week form now, but helping them to further their education will be priceless in the long run, even $50 per occasion with compounding interest over 18 years will add up to a nice amount

Last year, my two kids finger/hand/foot painted art work on a canvas for both sets of grandparents. Their artwork is now framed and displayed proudly in each home. We made a set for ourselves as well.

How about a calendar with different pictures of the baby each month? My parents loved theirs.

Cement stones with the foot/hand print. You can get this at any craft store.

Get the cement, coloring if you want and the shaped plastic container to make it in.

A really nice picture in a great frame usually does the trick. Or- get creative and get a "shadow box frame" and put in the little one's picture, cute "scrapbook" sayings and have the kid scribble on the background. My sister sends me cards with her kids scribbles on it and I love them.

Anything with pictures of her would be great, they love things like that. Try maybe the calendar idea, or a pretty personalized ornament!
