Our apartment complex gave all their tenants free weather tape for our windows and what not and I have no idea how to use it. It looks like normal, packaging tape (only a little thicker). The brand is Frost King, but found no info on their website. I don't want to peel off paint or ruin the windows by misusing it.

If you received plastic sheeting with it, the tape is most likely double sided. You would apply a strip of tape around the perimeter of the window, along the edge of window trim , if there is any, then peel off the protective face, exposing the tape, and apply the plastic. Its easiest to start from the top, center, work your way out, and then down. If the plastic is of the 'shrink' type, then a hair dryer on low heat setting will shrink it tight. This provides a good insulating barrier across the window. (and its wrinkle free, hehehe)

The double sided tape I mention above, is usually about 3/8" to 1/2" wide.

Another type of tape, is actually like packing tape... adhesive on only one side, and it's about 1 1/2" to 2" wide - this type is used to run around window sashes .... taping the sash and frame together. As long as the window is not painted, (as in painted wood) you need not worry about peeling paint when you remove it later.

Of course, the easiest way to determine what youve got, and what youre supposed to do with it, is to ask the apartment management, or maintenance personnel, hehehe.

Have Fun
