I think that water boarding isn't torture. It's only throwing water on people's face. This could get terrorists scared and talk about potential attacks.

do you agree or disagree?

You are right on the mark...it leaves no lasting damage and is an excellent tool to use on high value targets. Most who are against water boarding terrorists don't have a problem with aborting an unborn baby! Sick twisted logic on the left.

And removing people's fingernails is just good grooming
And cutting off limbs just helps them loose weight!

Slippery slope. Waterboarding is torture not because, necessarily, of the method, but the reason it's used. It's used specifically to hurt the other person to force them to give information. That's torture no matter who you are. Anyone who says not just doesn't understand. Now whether or not it's justified is a different question. If you believe some torture is justified, you'll like water boarding. But it's not just "water on people's face". It's literally trying to make people think they're drowning. Sounds like fun anyday.

It's a gray area.

There's no international agreement that we're signatory to that specifically defines waterboarding as torture. Nor is it defined as not torture.

The only definition of torture, in any international agreement that we've signed up to, is that it is the infliction of "severe pain or suffering, physical or mental".

Whether an aggressive interrogation technique like waterboarding rises to that level is left for each signatory nation to decide for itself.

Does waterboarding rise to that level? Sure, it causes severe stress and panic, but does it meet the legal description of "torture"?

That's a good subject for a serious debate.

two things.

first.. it's not just a splash of water.. the point is to SIMULATE DROWNING.. big difference.

second... if it gets to the point that we have to rely on torture to get information.. the we have already lost the information battle... in other words if (like say on 24.. since a lot of people seem to watch that show) terrorists had a nuclear device and we had to torture to get the information... well WHY did we let it get to that point in the first place!!! This is where our focus should be.. on improving our information network to the point that we know what they are thinking before they do!! not trying to bludgeon out information after the fact!

You are correct. Especially when you consider what these savages do to our guys when they get them. Be-headings posted on the Internet. With a dull blade yet. The last one I heard of was performed by a 12 year old kid. So, sorry if I don't feel sympathy for one of these maggots if they get a little water up their nose. Screw 'em. Besides, our college frats do worse than this at hazings. Grow up, people. We are in a dog fight. We had better be the baddest dog in it.

It's not very effective. It simulates drowning. Most people don't care much whether they live or die at that point.

Castration, on the other hand, is far more effective of a weapon. Not condoning it, just stating fact.

It's all fun and games until it's an American soldier that's caught and they're the ones being water boarded.

That's the reason we signed the Geneva Conventions to ensure the humane treatment of OUR soldiers and POWs.

I would like to waterboard you , maybe that would keep you from spewing your conservative talking points every chance you get. Try ... wait I know its hard at this point .. but just try to think for yourself and figure out how you truly feel about these issues . Then if you come to the conclusion that you agree with ole GW on everything , I am sorry it is too late you are already a robot hten its too late.

SURE!! as long as it ain't you right?

it's like a fun day at a pool, only with 4 or 5 big guys who would just as soon see you dead who forcefully hold you upside down while pouring the pool water up your nose.

no way THAT'S torture right?

Obviously you've never been the victim of waterboarding or any other kind of torture. From those of us who have experienced such atrocities, be well-advised: you should pray to your god that you never have to be on the 'receiving end' of such vile and despicable evil. If you think there's no "harm", I would be happy to administer such cruelty to you, but I doubt you're man enough to survive it. My guess is you've never known hardship - much less torture - in your entire privileged life. -RKO- 11/27/07
