heres a really dumb question why do athletes use eye black i know they say it keeps the sun out of your eyes but i have been playing softball for years and it doesnt seem to work

It helps absorb the sunlight because it is black. Most people don't wear it right though. If its not in the right place it won't do any good. Also a lot of people wear it because they think it looks cool.

It reduces the glare of the sun and baseball field lights to the players. This was created and started in the early 1930's when the lights of baseball fields were increased. Many players decided to use the eye-black because the Yankees trainer introduced the idea of, "cutting out light" and it really made a huge impact on sports.

Many sports players however, look at this as a fashion as some where it because it makes them look like a tought baseball player. Eye black is also used in Football, Soccer, you name it.

It cuts down on the glare of the lights at night and sun light during the day. I have use it in the past and it does work. If you don't need it that's even better, you don't have to run around with that black junk on your face.

it takes away the glare of the sun when i play baseball i can tell the difference when i am wearing it or not

and besides, if they wear "eye pink", no one would be able to see it.
