Lets see.
The Catholic Church gets to hide all these years reaping th benefits of an erroneous celibacy rule keeping anything inherited "in the family".
They allow priests to hide their pedophile troops.
The government does not do anything because they dont exist to protect "the people". They exist mostly "to take" and NOT protect. I mean govenment has benefited financially from religion "deceiving the masses" for centuries why stop now?
Oh and its not a few dozen bad priests as one fellow tried to post on here. Its thousands.

the goverment is so in debt to the catholic church they will continue doing what they have been doing , nothing, as long as the money keeps on flowing they will (goverment) they will keep their purses open and their mouths shut and eyes closed. Look how the catholic church got away with all the pain and suffering they put those little bodies thru, engaging in adult sex act with a child, it is gross and the people who attend those gaudy churches are just like them committing only God knows what acts in their private lives, why should they be any better? The are sheep and their children are the sacrificial lambs handed over to the priest for sex.

It's a case-by-case issue. You can't say the whole Catholic Church is all pedophiles based on lawsuits against a dozen or so priests. That would be like saying all military people serving in Iraq are torturers based on the conduct of a few at Abu Graib.

Although criminal prosecutions are few and far between (statute of limitations prevents most of them), the US Government would not be involved anyway. The crimes are state crimes, not federal, and so are up to the states to prosecute. And, apparently they choose not to do so. Besides, instead of putting priests in jail, the victims and their attorneys are content with big judgments.

freedom of religion does not allow breaching the law. that is criminal conduct and each state can go after such conduct occurring in their jurisdiction. another solution has been the mass lawsuits against the church hitting them in the pockets. the only limitation is potential statute of limitation problems. however, as far as the civil suits go, the clock does not usually click until the victim reaches the age of majority.

Separation of Church and State!! That's their [the Vatican] issue, honestly, which is not new at all and exclusive to the US.
All the government can do is prosecute the offenders and/ or sue.

As disgusting as the situation is, the US government has no right to go and regulate a church (even one I don't like).

They can feel free to prosecute those who are caught doing it, but they can't do anything preemptive.

Ban the Church...Pending Investigation...Then Dissolve it.. Then Jail them...The Pope too..They started the Licentiousness.

Sell the Church property and pay Compensation to the Victims....don't delay.

Lives have been ruined..by those lowlife scum..

Stop encouraging them to be celibate. That's just gonna attract weird people.

The only thing they can do is prosecute the offenders. What do you expect them to do?
