It is a weak class but he has a long way to climb; they are going after him as the poster boy for "Steroids and the Hall"; I think he will have a harder time than the people after him that are accused of roids...except Barry and Palmeiro, I think they both have a hard time even with the records Bonds has set. There is a good shot at no one making it this year, maybe Gossage because he is so close. If Big Mac does not make it this year 2008 does not get easier!

Right now the first year front runners are Tim Raines and David Justice. The sad thing is that the best choices for the inductees are all on the holdover list.
Tommy John, Bert Blyleven, Don Mattingly, Dale Murphy, Andre Dawson, and Lee Smith (reliever) are the ones that get my vote with Rice and Gossage as outside shots. Rice is coming up for the 14th time and Gossage the ninth. Remember the 15 time eligibility ruling.
As far as McGwire goes all I can is that if they vote him in, they will have to allow Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa in as well. McGwire will not get in this year either. Maybe 5-6 years down the road, but not this year.

It looks like right now that McGwire will not get in to the Major League Baseball Hall of fame, because of not only his steroid use, most of the Homeruns he hit were from his artificial steroids. He also did not make it into the 3000 hit club, or 1500 rbi club. And he had a career average of just .263. He didn't have too many big years, only the years when he hit 40-60 homeruns were his big years.
Also I have to add, that he doesn't look like the kinda guy who loves the game, and he doesn't look like a particularly baseball guy. The hall of fame doesn't look for only numbers, it looks for a guy everyone can look up to, a role model, and a guy who loves the game. Also he didn't play for that long of a time.

I strongly doubt he gets in this year, but McGwire's 2008 ballot return will tell us a lot more about how the writers consider him than his 2007 return did, because it was well-known he was going to get slammed the first time.
If he goes up a bit this time, that'll be good for his candidacy.
If he flatlines, well, maybe there's a majority of writers who are waiting to smite Palmeiro (the smoking gun player) before opening the doors for any other steroid suspect (his first ballot is a long way off, but I already consider Palmeiro to be toast).
If Mac drops, uh-oh.

It will be a long time before McGwire gets in. I agree it is a very weak class this year. I think Goose Gossage, Andre Dawson, Jack Morris, Dale Murphy, and Harold Baines will get in in '08.

i really don't think the writers will vote anyone in this year. the first time ballot guys aren't hall worthy. steroid suspicions are still too high for mac. hawk dawson and goose should be in already, but i don't think the writers will ever put them in. morris won't get in either, which is sad, his win total despite not winning the soon to be impossible 300, is high and he won more games than anyone in the 80's.
my only hope is the next time the vet meets, they finally induct the greatest player eligible for the hall that is not in................ronnie santo. it's a joke that number 10 isn't in already.

I think he will retain his 22% or so from last year's voting. He will also gain quite a bit from those sportswriters that believed he shouldn't have had the honor of being a first ballot HOFer. I think overall he will fall a little short this year but get in eventually.

i doubt it
i hope they finally give the nod to Jim Ed though. the most dominate power hitter of his era, so what if he didnt like talking to the media, guys should go in for their numbers they put up in relation to the time they played. not because some @sshole sports writer is still carrying a grudge because a player blew him off 20 years ago.

in a word, no....in the future, in a word, unlikely....after he is dead and is sent to the veterans commitee for their vote, in a word, doubtful...he was pretty much a one dimensional player--he hit the long ball, but after that, what were his skills? speed? slow...arm strength/accuracy? fair...batting average? below HOF standards...public image? poor--his "non testimony" before congress was pathetic...."mark" my words: he doesn't get in.
