how long should i stay away? ill be gone for most of the day when i do use it.

try a small amount of red wine in a glass and some oil , just a drop , and then repeat as necessary , soon no more bugs , and no harm to anything but the drowned fruit flies , and it works

Please take the baby and pet out from the house. The poisons in a bug bomb can be very dangerous and cause sever respiration issues, especially with a child. Because all bug bombs differ, you should find instructions on the product telling you the safe time to return. If not call the manufacturer or e-mail them with your concerns. These as well should be fond on the product. Take care and be safe.

Take the baby and guinea pig with you. You SHOULD be OK. If all else fails, read the instructions.

Usually you can get rid of fruit flies by removing what they are eating.
