To ensure you have a healthy baby you need the extra vitamins! Most people don't eat right anyway and have a hard time getting what they need let alone trying to supply a baby with what it needs! Don't be foolish with your unborn!

Well, prenatal vitamins are packed with all of the extra iron and stuff that your baby needs when your pregnant. So, really it is natural. I tried to take my prenatal vitamins every day because I knew that it would benefit my son and make him strong. And well, he was born 3 months early and he's currently in the NICU and he's a very strong little boy!

If you still don't want to take pre-natal vitamins, then just make sure you get a lot of iron and calcium into your diet. I suggest you talk to your doctor and maybe have him/her help you come up with diet. Good luck! And, CONGRATS on your pregnancy!

Among other things, folate can help prevent birth defects. It's a B vitamin, and helps prevent neural tube (brain and spinal cord) defects.

If you're not hyped about folic acid, eat fruits, dark-green leafy vegetables, dried beans and peas, and other foods that are natural sources of folate...or eat folic acid-fortified enriched cereal grain products and breakfast cereals.

Nobody's saying that your baby is going to have something horrible wrong if you don't take prenatal vitamins. Obviously, the human race has largely done fine before their invention.

Taking them is something of an insurance policy, though. It helps increase the odds that your baby will be healthy.

It's not too late for your friend to start, too.

you dont' have to take them. You don't need vitamins if you eat all the balanced diet for pregnant women. It would be alot of work to put that diet together. You need more of every vitamin. So you would need to have a large intake of fish, fruits, veggies, etc. The reaon for vitamins is that our diets are not very balanced anymore with the 'easy access food' It used to be that you ate all organic/wild meat and fresh veggies. Back in the day... things like starches were alot of work. That is why I see viatmins as natural. They keep our bodies up to date on the vitamins in this unatural world of tecnology. I would at least pick up a folic acid. That is considered necessary for the baby's development. It is cheap and very necessary. The rest is optional.

Okay so it is highly recommended that you take prenatal vitamins but, In my case, I did not take them with my son (due to the fact that every kind I tried made me sick) and he turned out absolutely fine. There is a lot of things in them that can help the baby but I am sure at one point in time there were no such thing as prenatal vitamins and women and babies did just fine. Just make sure your doctor knows that you are not taking them.

If you dont have enough Folic Acid your child could have a serious birth defect. Folic acid is usually a part of prenatal vitamins. Calcium makes sure you don't lose bone density while you are pregnant. Theres more in the list in the source i used.

Prenatal vitamins are natural. It is just extra calcium and other vitamins, minerals and nutrients that will help the baby and it will help you recover. It has been studied and found out that women actually grow healthier hair and nails if they take the prenatal vitamins even when they are not pregnant. My hair grows faster when I do.

Your baby could be born with spinabifida, a spinal malformation. It is important to eat a nutritious diet which includes vitamins and minerals, especially folic acid. Folic acid supplements are recommended because folic acid has been shown to prevent spinabifida.
