to those of you who asked "what option" stay out of the football section...its obvious you are clueless. and yes it is used, but usually by bigger schools. it takes 3 or 4 athletic running backs and very athletic quarterback. a lot of high school players are not physically capable or mentally capable because it can be complex (split-second decisions, blocking schemes, etc) the teams that do it, do it well. but high school coaches tend to stick to basic offenses that their players can handle.

I cover hs football for my local paper. I live in Fl. There are several teams that run a split veer or triple option quite well. The Wing T is also popular and many teams are going to the spread because of the number of fast receivers. They run the spread by putting a tall kid at qb that is fast and can throw. Some of these qbs put up big #s in HS but don't do well at the college level. I myself am old school and still believe in the power I.

It's being used less now that the spread offense has been implemented into systems. Teams that run a double wing pro use it more, but those offenses are pitiful when a defense learns how to contain it. And so the option is being contained the same way.

Yes a lot. But it is actually a complex system for many schools. The Wing T, Wishbone, and other running formations use lots of misdirection, traps, and motion to really achieve the same thing. You are just trying to fool the defense and exploit any slow players.

Donie Darko answered it very accuratly. My high school used when I played, and we used it extensivly. But our QB was 2nd team allstate and our RB was 1st team allstate.

I'm sure it is. Maybe not as often as it is in college or in the NFL, but I'm almost certain it is.
