...and you had to pick from one of this year's rookies to be the centerpiece of your franchise who would you choose and why?

Feel free to assume that you're an AL or NL team, it doesn't matter as long as you defend your rational.

I'll answer two ways...

I don't think there was any one rookie pitcher this season who seemed far and away better than the competition, so I'm going to go with two different hitters.

If I were a NL team: I would take Troy Tulowitzki because he offers incredible defense, a very potent offensive swing and all of the intangibles that can't be taught. He is a great team leader and shows confidence and poise that is years ahead of many veterans.

If I were an AL team: I would take Ryan Braun. Braun is a great mix of power and speed. He is going to strike out a lot in the long run, but he also has 40 homer potential every year along with the ability to hit for average and do damage on the basepaths. Unfortunately, he also does damage to the defense with his glove. In the AL, Braun's lackluster defense could be masked by moving him to first-base and if that didn't get the job done, he could always be turned into a designated hitter, although it hurts to waste someone who is young and athletic by forcing them off the field, perhaps a move to LF would be beneficial. But he is definitely built for an AL team.

I hope that answers your question.

I would want Tulowitski. Getting a gold glove caliber SS that can hit is never a bad thing.

Braun I would be a little leary about because he is most likely going to move off of 3B.

Bailey, Joba, Hughes, Gallardo, Lincecum would also be solid choices because ace quality arms are also tough to come by.

I believe Ryan Braun 324-34-97 and 15 stolen bases is the real deal and should be a monster for years to come. He would be my centerpiece.

Prince Filder. He's very young and will be a force in the NL for a long time. Don't forget the pitching in the NL is much weaker at the moment than it is in the AL.

Some other guys I would pick Hanley Ramirez, Troy Tulowitzki, or Jose Reyes.

I would love Joba Chamberlain to be on my team. He's got intensity that I want for my number one starting pitcher.

If I could pick a hitter, it would be Ryan Braun because he showed so much power this year. 35 homeruns in half a season; I wonder what he would do if he had 60 extra games!

I would pick Troy Tulowitski because he is a guy you can build a team around, plays most useful position very well, hits for a good average.
