What are some things you do to simplify Christmas to make the time more enjoyable? For example.. I try to have all my shopping done by Nov. 30th. The holidays can be chaos even with shopping done.. so what do you do?

I've been finished with Christmas Shopping for weeks. Everything is wrapped, ready to go and hidden away.

I did all my shopping online. It's easier to compare prices. Plus, I have been doing it since June... Little money here, little money there. I refuse to be broke this Christmas. All I want for Christmas is to retain my money!

I think like everything else in life , it is better to just sit back and enjoy it. Do things that you want to do, and let others hold the reigns for a while. For example, Don't invite family over for a big meal if you don't enjoy cooking it. Let another family member do it and help out when necessary. And don't pressure yourself about what to get everyone, just walk around a store and let something catch your eye. Or better yet do all the shopping in shifts, I did some this weekend and in 2 weeks I will finish. Try sipping your favorite hot drink by a fire or in front of the TV while you watch a Christmas Movie. Also don't have any preconcieved ideas about what should happen. Just let the uncontrollable happen and take it for a ride! Just relax, have fun and don't let the holidays Run you!

Ditto -- having all the gifts ready before December even starts is a huge weight off the shoulders. Having lists of who I want to buy for with me is a big help -- it's an easy reminder over who I still need to get things for and who's already taken care of. I think making gifts is a nice way to enjoy the holidays -- although you do have to start early, but it certainly gets you in the spirit and you have fun doing it. I like to have the baked goods done around Thanksgiving and freeze them if I'm not giving them away within the first week of December. Getting holiday cards done and notes written out before the end of November is good, so they can be ready for mailing on December first. For everything else like getting the house decorated, getting together with friends, etc., I try to do a little every day. It's a fun excuse to get together with friends and exchange gifts and I enjoy decorating the house, so even though you're marking things off a list, it's still very holiday inspired.

I would love to have a simple Christmas for Christmas. No crazy running around trying to find last minute gifts, (which I haven't even bought one yet) no frenzy of super stores, no "what do I wear?!".
I would like to have a REAL tree for Christmas and actually get away from it all, I adore history, so I would love to go to a Colonel village this year, dress up, and realize the true meaning of Christmas. I'm an oldie, I like traditional Halloween without witches, skeletons and such. Just carving pumpkins, bobbing for apples etc. etc.
I want to be able to sing carols, drink hot cider, eat Christmas pudding and celebrate with family in good cheer without worrying about presents, I want to have a colonel Christmas.

Yours,
Jess

We try to keep things very organized and simple. Having a plan really does work. I usually sit down before Thanksgiving week and come up with a list of all the things I need to do, such as decorate the house, shop, bake, etc... Then I break each one of those categories down and list what I will be doing for that specific item as well as the items I need to purchase. It sounds like a lot of writing, but it really does help me in the long run. Another thing I do is on days that are less busy, I cook double servings of dinners such as soups, stews, etc... and freeze them for a night that we are more busy! I print out all the address labels for our Christmas cards ahead of time and my oldest child sticks them onto the envelopes for me. I attend a cookie swap each year and that way I don't have nearly as much baking to do! A friend of mine and I get together too on one evening and we do all of our wrapping of gifts. Just remember, you don't have to do everything! And you don't have to go to every single party! Do as much as you feel comfortable with so that you don't end up dreading this wonderful time of year!

Go in on presents. Team up with family / friends and make gift baskets and/or just go in on gifts together. That's what i ALWAYS end up doing. Limit your Christmas parties to only those people you RARELY see during the year - that simplifies it for me. Drink lots of water and try to get to bed at night.
Family functions can be rough so, its wise arrive early and leave early - if you can, arrange your own transportation so you aren't trapped. Happy Holidays!

Cut back on the number of different christmas cookies I bake. I'm working on having my xmas shopping done this week. I'm close. :) That's it. No more. I'm sticking to that this year.

Cut out the guilt. Do what you can comfortably and that's good enough. It's not worth the stress and frustration.

The whole Christmas season is my favorite time....decorating, shopping, baking, visiting friends and family, pagents, caroling, Church Christmas program, snow, driving around looking at lights, presents Candle light service...I love it all, couldn't think what I would leave out to simplify....
