One is the picture and one is the procedure. They used to refer to it as a sonogram. These days we all call it the procedure - ultrasound.

The sonogram is just the result of the ultrasound. The terms are often interchangeable since they mean practically the same thing.

I also question this. I thought sonogram was the old fashioned term for ultrasound.
