Its 180 miles and will take 4 hours if you're lucky; roads in England are notoriously congested though and minor accidents can cause huge traffic jams. You can also take the train; Virgin Trains from Manchester Piccadilly to London Euston run every half hour and take around 2 hours 15 minutes, though journey times at weekends are longer at present due to on going track work. Book ahead for the cheapest fares.

I go by the M6 and M40 and I like to take up to 5 hours, leisurely, by keeping to 60mph. But I used to have a Beamer and on a good day could do it under 2 hrs on the M1 & M6. Then I was rather silly.

m6 then m40 toll route then a40 straight through to london should take 3 to 3 1/2 hours done it loads of times
