Why fix something if it isn't broken? There is no conspiracy. Fossil fuels are the most efficient, cost effective, convenient source of energy available. The call for alternate energy is the conspiracy. Everyday people are lied to in schools, on the T.V. in magazines, etc. that we are "destroying" the earth.
But what about hydrogen and solar and wind power some ask? Aren't they "free" and natural sources of energy? Yes, but one problem. THEY DO NOT WORK. Wouldn't it make sense that if these "evil and greedy" big corporations could get free energy, they would have found a way to get it by now? Maybe that is because they are unreliable, inefficient, and not cost-effective.
Facts:
#1 The earth renews and cleans itself. Think about when a volcano erupts. How many millions of tons of sulfur, C02, Carbon Monoxide, Acid, etc. does it spew into the atmosphere? What about natural fissures under the ocean which vent out millions of gallons of crude oil every day?
#2 There has ALWAYS been a hole in the ozone layer.
#3 Global Warming is just a radical term for "We are coming out of an Ice Age". Core samples collected at Antarctica indicate that the Earth has been gradually getting warmer over obout the last 10, 000 years. OMG! and one day *gasp* it will start cooling again. But still, power hungry politicians and biased media will tell us that it is our fault.
#4 Regardless on what you may have seen on TV, Al gore is NOT a scientist. He is a career politician and will tell you what he wants you to hear.
My conspiracy theory plays out like this: Politicians started this hype because it is just that: hype, and Americans LOVE drama so this gains them credibility. Also there are a few tree-huggers who actually believe this stuff and have enough credibility and influence to get their own message out.
On the Political side, politicians hope that Americans see a crisis and will turn to the government, giving them more power. Now that this is a governmental issue, the government has that much more control over taxation and regulation anything organic to the dilema. Yes, higher taxes, expanded government, and one more agency for US citizens to support with their hard earned money.
Now, on the private side, the tree huggers are benefitting from advertisement, money recieved for lobbying, etc.

It's going to take a lot of effort to transition to a hydrogen or electric based automobile system. A lot of legislation needs to be written, a lot of devices need to be test in isolation, and then tested assembled to ensure they are safe. Any company that tries to develop cars featuring alternative fueling mechanisms is going to have to invest lots of money on a gamble, and the resulting product will probably cost more initially. It can pay dividends in the long run, but if not carefully executed would be a waste of money for any company to try and deviate from the standard formula for producing cars.
It looks like Honda will have hydrogen powered cars available next year (that's well ahead of their schedule, but no mention on prices yet). I imagine within 10 years time it will become somewhat commonplace to see them on the road.
The reason why you don't see so many of these nifty ideas in place that environmentalists talk about is because the environmentalists don't implement them. All they do is sit on the sidelines and complain that someone else should do it. I know some that get off their ****** and actually work for these things, but they are few and far between.

Well, we should be trying for cleaner technologies in spite of the wackos trying to pimp the whore of Socialism off as the goddess Gaia. But here's the real deal.
Hydrogen and electricity share the same problem; they do not store energy efficiently.
Hydrocarbon does.
Which is why Life stores most of its energy in hydrocarbon form, and why there's so much excess biologically produced hydrocarbon energy lying around in the form of oil and coal.
Asking for hydrogen (or electric) vehicles is like asking for shovels made of gold. Gold is pretty, but it's just the wrong stuff to make a shovel out off. Steel is cheaper and harder.
There are golden shovels though. Politicians use them to break ground for new buildings. They take one small scoop in soft ground then the gold shovel gets put away for the next ceremony and all the real work gets done with steel shovels.
Hydrogen cars aren't coming. Not in 5 years, not in 10, not in 50, not ever. They are golden shovels. Politicians will drive to the ceremony in hydrogen vehicles. Tell the press how shiny they are. Then put them away for the next ceremony, while hydrocarbon does the real work.

the only reason that no electric or hydrogen based vehicles are on the road is because they haven't been fully tested on the streets or been approved by the federal government.
Just because these cars are tested under certain conditions doesn't mean that they will last on the streets. Car companies test vehicles on the streets to understand how to make it better.
Plus, the cost to make a hydrogen fueled car is VERY high right now, but is being brought down as more tests and technologies progress. By 2011 Chevy and Toyota are expected to release hydrogen fuel cell cars in America, but that's if the federal government does their job on time.

Because global warming deniers and oil company lobbyists have slowed down the process of converting to cleaner technologies.

Shhhh, it will never happen. Let the eniviromental nutcases have their say while not changing their routine of driving to work in favour of public transport.
Anyway, they would all have to become Vegan as well if they really believed in their cause. Instead they drive down to McDonalds with their bumper sticker quoting Al Gore.

because they ARE wackos so full of sh*t its coming out their ears. they just repeat what idiots like al gore tell them to say with no real knowledge or science behind their claims.
and if mankind had destroyed our ecosystem so badly like they like to scream like a bunch of chicken littles, isnt it pretty presumptuous to believe changing your light bulbs and recycling your morning paper is going to turn this thing around?
