I am currently a junior at Villanova and I narrowed my choices down to 2 majors but I do not know which way to go. I was considering becoming a CPA, but people tell me the job is very tedious and "boring" with average pay.
Finance on the other hand is harder to find a job but more interesting and you get to travel.
What do you think?
Major in finance and minor in Accounting or vice versa?

If I had to do it again, I would double major. I got a Bachelors in Finance, but went back for the Masters in Accounting b/c I liked Accounting more (a Financial Planner's salary is based largely on commissions - I did NOT go to school for 4 years to be a salesperson!). A double major gives you more options - it's a great combo!

And NO - Accounting is not being replaced by computers - demand for Accountants is actually UP - that previous poster has no idea!

You can't really compare salaries unless you know what it is you would want to do with each major (and where - Accountants in NY make more than Accountants in Florida...but they also have higher living expenses in NY).

Also - some auditors do lots of traveling!

good luck with career no matter what you choose!

A double major would be awesome. There are tons of accounting jobs out there. Finance is definitely more interesting and has a very high income potential. A good understanding of financial statements will definitely be helpful in a job in finance. I started off as an accounting major and switched to finance and I love it.

I have known CPAs who have made decent money, but, Accounting is fast being replaced by software.
Finance has multiple fields. Investing and brokering is a good part.
