I mean I have been a Sabres fan my whole life - Win or lose. I am from Buffalo, I play hockey, my family has had season tickets for over 10 years, I love the city I live in. Why is it that you have to dump on every fan of ours and call us bangwagoners? There are teams in the league that cant even put fans in the seats. I am sure that there are a few fair weather fans but not all of us are like that. Is it rivalry, a dislike for our players, our city, fans...what do you have against the Sabres and our fans?

Buffalo is not a dump. I hate when people say that.
Benny: Don't be offended by what some of the regulars say about the Sabres. They are just a little bitter... apparently some bad experiences with bandwagon fans. They will grow to like you if you're not a troll. :)
I don't hate the Sabres or their fans. Mostly because you guys are not from Ottawa. Bonus points! ;) I've never been to a Sabres game, but I've been to some Bandits games and Buffalo has some pretty crazy - and loyal - fans there. I imagine it's a similar experience at the HSBC Arena when the Sabres are playing. I've always thought of Buffalonians?? as big sports fans and big supporters of their home teams. Whenever I'm down in Buffalo the Bills fans scare the crap out of me. They're a little bit um... yeah, nevermind. But my point is sometimes you guys can be a bit overzealous and when that fanatical allegiance comes off a bit too strong people dub you as bandwagon fans. Especially if your team won the President's Trophy. ;) No doubt there ARE bandwagon fans in Buffalo... and quite a few, but I know what you mean when you say you've been a fan all your life. I have a few friends from Western New York and they're die hard Sabres fans through thick and thin! They would give their right arm for Lindy Ruff! lol So just keep on truckin'! Cheer for your team and ignore what other people say about the Sabres or their fans.
*Oh yeah! Plus I listen to WGR sports radio and you Buffalo fans... you make me laugh all the time! I rarely listen to AM640 anymore because your Buffalo sense of humour/Howard Simon/RJ all keep me entertained. :)

Its so annoying. Still some band wagon fans r annoying. Fort the record I became a fan in 05. B4 the season B4 anyone kneew they'd be good because hockey became fun and I watched more high school games. At least The Sabres are still a good team now and are quietly slipping back into the playoff hunt w/ their 5 game win streak propelling them. The offense has improved w/young guys like Vanek, Stafford, asnd Ryan coming through well Miller's been imroved and Thiabault finally made a decent start after 2 sub-p;ar starts w/ a shutout of Montreal saturday night.
As for Buffalo the city is not a dump contrary to what the rest of the country thinks. I won't lie and say its perfect since some areas downtown are pretty ugly but it's a nice place still. If the Bills ever started winning we'd be good to go.

I am a Jackets fan, thus I am not a "real" hockey fan according to some of you. So my opinion will mean absolutely nothing to you, but here it goes...
I worked as a ticket scanner/usher at Nationwide Arena last year and was working the night Columbus defeated the visiting Sabres. I was very impressed with the fan presence for Buffalo, but was less impressed with SOME of the fan's attitudes. I had some pleasant conversations with a few folks that traveled from New York to Ohio and they were very pleasant and very complimentary of the city, team, and arena. However, there were those that were very bitter after the loss. There were several reports of physical fights and verbal confrontations after the game. I can blame Blue Jacket fans for these as well, but as you know, it takes two to tango. If you are in a confrontation, you have the opportunity to take yourself out of it.
One incident I recall was a group of four or five Sabres fans standing at the front gates chanting, "Playoffs...playoffs...playoffs..." I was actually laughing at this, but also at the Columbus fans that started chanting, "Go home, Buffalo...Go home, Buffalo..." (In response to the "Let's go, Buffalo" chant heard all night inside the arena.) It was all in fun, and was done with good humor, but I also thought that it was very bold (obnoxious even) of a fan to brag in a visiting arena after losing to the worst team in the league. Especially when your team was dominating the way they were.
I don't think people necessarily hate the team, but some may hate the fans because of the obnoxiousness they display. Take your loss and go home. Don't brag after losing to the worst team in the NHL.
I enjoyed their visit here in the C-bus. If they ever come back, I may consider getting a ticket to experience what the fans went through that night I had to work. I don't know about the whole bandwaggon thing...I don't live there, so I couldn't give an opinion on that.

I don't hate Sabres fans. The last game I saw at the Meadowlands before the Devils moved to the new Newark arena was against the Sabres, and there were no incidents.
I've been to Buffalo, and although downtown looked rather dreary, there's a section north of downtown that reminds me of some towns in North Jersey, near Newark and the Meadowlands, including some nice parkland, and I like the city. I especially like that they kept the old Memorial Auditorium up long enough for me to see it. (I don't know if it still stands, but I did get to see it.)
I have no problem with Buffalo, or Sabres fans, or even Bills fans. The uniforms of both teams, that's another story.

I hate the three teams closest in location to mine (Ottawa, Detroit and Buffalo) and will until the day I die. I cheer against those clubs. It's rivalry.
I don't hate hockey fans if they really are hockey fans and I can tell pretty fast. If you talk the talk and walk the walk you'll get your due. If it's smack you wanna lay down bring it. I was at your team's first ever game most likely long before you were born. And I can verbally spar with the best.
Most of us here have a favourite team but we also love the game. And there's always room for more REAL hockey fans.
I have to echo what Bob said about the loudmouthed bandwagoners that flooded the boards last May. They disappeared like floatsam over the Horseshoe Falls right after the fourth loss to the Sens. And I hope they never come back. They contributed nothing so they aren't missed. And it was amazing how rude many of them were.
Like I said, you show us your stripes and we'll give you respect. If you wanna run your mouth, bring it. Just don't hide behind your mama when it gets too hot.
Yo Ashley you do realize that you aren't supposed to give out your age if you happen to be under the minimum age limit for usage here. That will just get you banned.

Has not been any Sabres fans around in awhile, a modest 5 game winning streak has me thinking they will soon flood the board, pretty self explanatory. Also, it has nothing to do with you, the fans or the team but the city is a dump.
Don't talk like the fans in Buffalo have always supported the Sabres, they have supported their recent success, you may not fit that criteria so good for you but as a whole, they are bandwagoners, it has really been beaten to death though.
For a better example, how is your city's Bills of the NFL doing now? They want to play games in Toronto next year? Say what?
You are young and have supported the team for most of your life and probably will continue to do so, you don't fit the mold of the Buffalo fans that I like to crap on.
You joined this site in March- how many Buffalo fans were on this board telling anyone who would listen that they are the best, give them the cup, Let's Go Buffalo in March, April??? How many through the first month of the season when they struggled? About 5% of what were here is fair, no?
Imagine if they tank it the rest of the way- attendance will go WAY down. They are fairweather. It is a fact.
Why do you think they are hated? For their unparalled success of 0 championships in anything?
Anyway, like I said, you might not meet that criteria so I'll move along.

I have been a Sabres fan for over 9 years now. I have my husband to thank for that-he was born & raised in East Amherst. I have stood by them through the highs and lows. I was recently called a bandwagon fan by someone else on here, because I said I don't clear my schedule to watch them like I used to. But I still go to games, and still want them to win.
As far as the area, I hate the state of NY (grew up in upstate), but I love the area we live in. I am 5 minutes from Lake Ontario, and we own a boat, so that helps lol!
Just to clarify, I joined YA about 3 weeks ago, so no, I was not one of those "bandwagon fans" that were here last May!

Buffalo's one of the teams I practically feel indifferent to. If the Pens win or lose to them, I'm not going to get too excited. There isn't too big of a rivalry there.
I don't hate Sabres fans in general... I don't like the bandwagon Sabres fans, but I don't like any bandwagon fans. I should add that the only Sabres fans I've met have creeped me out and I sort of thought they were a little pathetic...
Though they were nice... SCARY NICE! LOL.

Darlin, I know, I know, I know. School in summa time. People who have to leave the bar at 2 get bored easily, or they don'[t manage to stay awake long enough to enjoy the nightlife here. Every city has fairweather fans, don't lose sleep over it. I've gone on this rant about 6 billion times and its exhausting trying to explain to others about a city they've never been to and wouldn't know what to do with when they get here.
I mean, let's call a spade a spade, the hookers may be gone, but Chippewa still isn't for everyone ;)

Stop with this "at least we fill the building" stuff. As a native Western New Yorker, I remember attending games in the years prior to the lockout where half the building was empty. You only fill the building when your team is competitive which it has been for the last 3 years.
The reason people "hate" you is because some of your brothers just talk to much. It is great to be a fan, but it is pathetic to be over the top especially since your team has as many cups as Lindy Ruff has class, that is none.
And Buffalo is a dump. But it is my dump. I am proud to be from the area. I just wish it had an economy so I could return with a real job.
