You need to change the 3/5 so you have common denominators. You need to multiply 3/5 by 3/3, giving you 9/15 - 4/15. Answer being 5/15, which reduces to 1/3.

3/5-4/15=
get a lcd which in this case is 15
so 3/5=9/15 because what you do to the denominator you must do to the numerator so 3/5 * 3/3= 9/15-4/15=5/15=1/3

3/5 is the same as 9/15 because to make the 5 15 you need to multiply it by 3. If you multiply the bottom by 3 then the top is multiplied by 3 too.
9/15-4/15= 5/15
5/15 can then be simplified to 1/3.

ok first you have to make the two bottom numbers the same..... SSince 5 can be made to 15 by multiplying by 3.... it would now be 9/15 so 9/15 - 4/15 will be 5/15 this cam than be reduced to 1/3
the bottome numbers can only change by multiplying or dividing....they can never be added to subtracted...
Hope this helps you a bit the answer once again 1/3

3/5 times 3 (to get a common denominator) gives you 9/15, then minus 4/15 and you get 5/15, or 1/3 (simplified)

9/15- 4/15= 5/15 or 1/3
You need a common denominator
