What is the best currency to take to Delhi India, Rupee, US Dollar, Euro, Sterling, I'm there for a week - also flying via Kuwait, so possible spending at the airport there

The person that says you are not allowed to take indian rupees in or out of the country is correct, all others are not quite correct.
You can freely exchange three currencys

Pound Sterling
Euro
US dollar

You can exchange nearly any other currency however the above three are most widely quoted, suggestting they are the most popular and most competative to exchange. The dollar is weak but it would be pointless changing it to pounds then Rupees as it is all relative.
If you are from the USA take US $, if from Britain take pound sterling, if a euroxone country take Euros- Simple

Sterling or US Dollars. Customs won't let you take Indian Rupees into the country because they want the foreign currency.

as dollor rate are deprciating i would perfer euro which is the strong currency compare to dollor now in india.
