Do this strictly in academic settings, and you won't have to worry about weirdos. By that I mean don't advertise your services in the classifieds and hope that only sane people respond to your ad. Just apply directly to the department heads of college art departments, and local art centers or art societies that offer figure drawing. People who have paid for the instruction are normally quite serious and professional.

You do NOT need to show photos of yourself nude, as someone suggested. Goodness. You're not auditioning for a movie or a centerfold. The school will not CARE what you look like under your clothes, it is irrelevant. Students are there to draw the human form, no matter what shape that human form is in. Fat, thin, wrinkly, hairy, scarred, none of that matters a bit. We got every conceivable type in drawing class.

Back to the "weirdo" thing again---you can do private sessions as well, but I'd advise only doing that for artists you've gotten to know and trust in the above-mentioned academic settings, or who have been recommended by same. Make sure they're really artists, at least---ask for their gallery affiliation, website, etc. to see their work. You can't be too careful.

The local MIAD (a Milwaukee student art college) puts out a request occasionally for nude models, you don't have to be beautiful to do it either--they call it life drawing and want all sorts of people for that.

They pay $60 an hour, you come fully clothed, with a bathrobe, and they let you disrobe in private. You're posed on a dias and students start drawing. You get to change positions a couple of times. The important thing is to be comfortable about it all.

Check with your local art classes--call the schools and talk to the teacher doing the class. They'll let you know if they do life drawings and what days. Here it's twice a month, on alternate Fridays from 7-8pm. It's a class people have to pay to be in, so there's no weirdoes. It's as common to get a 60 year old guy posing as it is a young woman (minimum age is 21).

Like everyone answering the question is saying call the art department at the college. Ask to speak with the person that schedules models for studio classes. usually they're called a model coordinator. When you speak with the coordinator be polite & positive telling them you have no experience as a figure model but would like to model at the school. It's late in the semester so they might tell you they already have models scheduled for all their classes. That's ok because now you ask them to place your name and phone number on their model list so the next time they schedule models they have your name. It also doesn't hurt to ask them to consider you, if a scheduled model cancels out for some reason or another, it does happen. If they call you need to be ready to pose, if you are unable to pose when they need you they'll probably not call back so be committed. It can take some time so have patience they will call at some point. It's really worthwhile to contact more than one school if possible looking for work. it helps your odds of finding work sooner. If you do what I wrote I can actually guarantee you'll find work and also make some money. Good luck and be ready for the call.

Call around to local colleges and universities asking for the names of their art professors / instructors. Contact them asking if they need someone for that particular position. Get an address and mail a buisiness card along with a portfolio of yourself clothed and unclothed. That should gain you some respect in the field. Also, ask if you can meet with them for an interview.

Ask at some local colleges. I am sure they could help point you in the right direction.
