Yes, and I also think prostitution should be legalized and capitalized on.

Absolutely not. We have enough drug problems without making them worse.
The medical marijuana issue is a red herring. The argument is that it relieves nausea associated with chemotherapy. There are far better anti-nausea drugs on the market and no need to go through the added problems of trying to decide which patients are in real need of the help and which ones are just looking for an excuse for a bong hit.
On the other hand, the way Congress is going after tobacco which is legal, maybe the best approach would be to legalize it and then tax it out of existence!

The first thing to ask is "Why is it not legal?" The real answer is that it was made illegal because of the class of people who used it at the time. Then it was mostly "******", "Mexicans", and "beatniks". This law was put into place to put these people in their place, but not much more was done about it and it became a crime only when this type of people needed to be hauled in to jail when they were not doing anything else.
Then came the 60's and the war protest movement. Nixon's people noticed that among other things war protesters had a tendency to also smoke something that was not tobacco. In the name of "Law and Order" and the "War on Drugs" we got to the point where a person could go to prison for the rest of his/her life for possessing pot.
The next question is "Is this "crime" so bad that it worth the trouble of clogging up the courts and prisons with the people that commit theses crimes?" Personally, I don't think it is, but many people do.
Now, to your question, legal at all times and all places, NO!, but its a health and safety issue, not a crime. Just as we do not lock up everyone who takes a drink or everyone who smokes a cigarette but otherwise are not hurting anyone, we should not try to lock up someone who smokes a little weed as long as they are not otherwise making a disturbance.

It is legal for certain medicinal uses and is tightly controlled in its uses but I don't know what you think is going to happen in 5 yrs.
If it is legalized then it should be tightly controlled almost like prescription drugs, alcohol or firearms are now.
I don't think this will solve the larger problems related to harder drugs like crack, cocaine, heroin etc or eliminate the "war on drugs." The harder drugs are more addictive, do more bodily damage to the user faster and generally cause more problems for society than marijuana does.

i believe that marijuana should be legalized... it's no worse than alcohol. in fact, the side effects of alcohol abusers are much worse than those of "pot heads."alcohol shrinks your hippocampus, which prohibits you from taking in new information- hince, it's more difficult to learn new things. not to mention all of the horrible effects on your liver and what not. as long as the law treats marijuana use like alcohol use, i think it's totally fine. there should be an age limit on purchasing and using it, as well as punishment for those who choose to drive under the influence of it, just like alcohol... i seriously don't see the big deal about marijuana being illegal...

yes it should be legalized. it wasn't made illegal because of the effects it has on people anyway! one of the main reasons it was made illegal in the first place is because the hemp industry was becoming too big a competitor to the rope industry. the decision was pretty much made by one of the largest rope manufacturers back in the 40's i believe.
if the government only realized it's just something else they can tax! as mentioned in another answer above, tax it and control it.

The reason that marijuana and other drugs are illegal is to create bureaucracy. It has nothing whatsoever to do with morality or health or protecting Americans.
