I am concerned about my daily bowel movements. Everyday I have to strain and I hope it's not taking a toll on my unborn baby. I noticed the color is also dark green which is unusual. Is this normal? Are there any treatments to help ease the pain?

If you are taking prenatal vitamins then they are likely to blame. Prenatal vits have high iron in them and can cause consitpation. Ask your ob about switching to a diff brand. Also, drink lots of water--a gallon a day is about right. Straining is ad when pregnant, or anytime for that matter. Straining will most certainly cause hemeroids. Use a dab of vasoline on your rectum to help ease things along. You may need to add a stool softener, but again, check with your OB first. Also, glycerin suppositories are safe for pregnant women and may help.

Milk of magnesia. Effective and safe in pregnancy. Pick some up at Rite Aid, CVS, or even Walmart.

Prune juice works too so does eating prunes, but it might take longer to work. Milk of Magnesia works pretty quickly.

Drink water, water and more water. Also, you could try an enema if you are brave.
