1) Alcohol is a much better population control drug. A population of stupid, ignorant and arrogant drunks is much easier to control than a population who smokes Marijuana and thinks.
2) Hemp is a rich source of strong natural fiber, oil, fuel, food and many other products, whose production would be in direct competition to big oil companies.

Misinformation that is purposely spread by the war on drugs to make people think that cannabis is much worse than it actually is. Most people don't do their own research and just believe whatever infomation is presented by anti-drug organizations. For the most part it's effective in keeping people off cannabis.
I really wish they would just give the straight facts. When they tell you cannabis is so bad and kids find out it isn't they think other drugs must be ok too. Meth, Heroin, and Cocain are whats really bad.

It inhibits learning, can alter moods long term and is very bad for one's respiratory and cardiovascular systems.
It does not have that negative of a social stigma though. The stoner culture is often portrayed in teen and young adult movies though sometimes in the background.
It is not healthier than smoking tobacco. Perhaps less addictive but not healthier.

"Refer Madness"
It was government movie like this that lied to the public and got them to believe that it would make you see things and colors. It is worse than cigarettes by about 1.5 times as bad but I don't know of anyone that smokes it like people smoke cigarettes. The oil companies have kept it illegal because some hippies back in the 70s found a way to make a cleaner burning fuel than the oil based fuel that would be cheaper to make and sell with an unlimited supply.

Really it boils down to what was acceptable back in the day. Kings and people of the old days openly drank wine and other alcohol and smoked. Cannabis has not always been used, although quite a few people use it now. I don't smoke it any more, but I think it should be legal.

I maintain that if these POT rallies showed a bunch of business men in suits taking the afternoon off work to demonstrate, or even just a bunch of polite, clean cut kids..then people would change their minds. Who is shown on TV. A bunch of friggin useless bums.

Because it's illegal. If it was legal, people might have to deal with someone over 18 walking down the street smoking a joint. Then they might see it's nothing to get in a tizzy about.
