When I was young, it was fear of Communism and nuclear war. We had fallout shelters and drills where we had to hide under our desks. Political leaders have long ago learned that fear is the best way to destroy reason in a person. When we are afraid, we no longer reason and we make ridiculous decisions. Today the Republican party lives by the mantra of fear. Fear of the terrorists. They hope to get all of their agenda past you by having you so afraid, you lose your sense of reason. Giving up your civil rights for the protection by the government from the fear of these terrorists is exactly the agenda of the right. Surveillance, wire tapping, etc. I read so many posts about people being OK with the govt listening in on them, watching what they do, because it protects them form the terrorists. Meanwhile, huge corporations prosper. The unfortunate are ignored. And we keep backing these yokels because we are afraid. I heard Mitt Romney in a recent debate actually say that our civil rights all take a back seat to the ultimate right we have of a government that will keep him alive. Now that is being driven by fear. That is giving control to the fear mongers.

I think we live in a world of control. One faction or another wants to be in control of the population and resources. The fear of losing control makes them angry and they begin to hate those that threaten them. This hate leads to aggression which causes suffering.
