If i remember rightly they give you a membrane sweep at about 7 days to try and bring things on and they check if your dilated at all and they book you in for an inductions betwen 10 and 14 days and tell you to come back then if you haven't gone into labour by then. Write down any questions you can think of now because when you get in there it goes right out of your head especially when they put there hand in to do the sweep (sorry i know a little much info but noone warned me and it was a shock!!) Good Luck!! o by the way i did end up with an induction but if you can avoid being givin the drip to speed it up then do wow it hurts as it intensifies the contractions big time and made my son heart rate go up which resulted in a section. also as the midwife if there is anything you can do to help bring on the labour, walking or bouncing on a birthing ball or whatever.

I think a lot depends on where you live because different areas follow different procedures.
I was 7 days overdue when I had my appointment (ps this is hubby's account!). I was given a membrane sweep which I requested and can bring on labour but didn't in my case. I was then given appointment for an induction a few days later.
I was induced at 11 days over.
It can be more a more painful labour via induction but TBH you'll just be glad to get the baby out.
One thing I will say though is, if they insist on breaking your waters ask them if it is really needed. It really intensifies the pain and isn't needed if like me you are already having good contractions.

You can either be induced or have a c-section. I'd go with induction. I was induced at 37 weeks and it was a great experience. The only out of the ordinary thing that happens is they break your water...that and drugs are administered to start contractions. I had a 6 hour labor...3 pushes and a beautiful 7lb 10 oz baby girl! That was 2 years ago and I'd do it again if offered to me along with a c-section!!
This is for sadbrown...unfortunately sweetie what you felt, you woul dhave felt regardless!!! ITS CALLED GIVING BIRTH!!! You get IVs when you get there and you feel pain and they will not let you eat...induction, natural or c-section.....THEY FOLLOW SAME PROCEDURE!

I was induced and I would not recommend it to anyone!!! Seriously it was the worst pain I ever felt. My cervix was soft and I was dialated 3cm I think and I was 8 days overdue when they induced me. I stayed in the hospital the night before and they woke me at 5 am....I could not eat a thing and hooked me up to potosum. It hit me instantly. The pains hurt so bad. I could not get up to go to the bathroom easily because I was hooked on all the IVs and I could not go into a tub because of the medicine. They gave me a little morphine and then uped the potosum...oh my it hurt. I was in labor for about 12 hours with no break. Most of the time with contractions you have a few minutes inbetween to relax but mine were constant. If you could I would try and hold off to see if you have natural labor. I am not sure if this is the case for everyone who has gotten induced, but mine sucked. Good luck on the labor and congrats!!!

I have 5 children and my first was 10 days overdue. This is very common in first babies. They will more than likely tell you to go home and pack your case for the next day and admit you . They will give you pessaries in the vagina to try to start contractions. Be prepared for a few internal examinations they normally do this to try to agravate the cervix to start labour. Sometimes they would also pinch your placenta to start your waters leaking to bring on contractions. It is very exciting but dont worry enjoy the journey child birth is amazing and very rewarding. I hope everything goes well. Just enjoy your last couple of nights with your partner.

She may strip your membranes, which can bring on labor a little quicker. Midwives are usually not so quick to induce, so she may let you go until 42 weeks before actually inducing you, since you are still within a normal timeframe for delivery, 38-42 weeks..

walk, eat spicy food and have sex this should naturally help you pop out that baby
other than that it will be discussed when you want to be induced as it needs to happen soon and you shouldve discussed it a week ago
as per what happens they just give you pitocin (IV drip) and an epidural if you want one and your contractions start and hopefully shortly there after you have the baby

regrettably there is not any actual thank you to bring about labour. the warmth baths and long walks are meant to help, the curry and intercourse are only a splash a fable. certainly one of my friends swore that raspberry leaf tea helped her, you may get it from wellbeing nutrition shops. additionally nipple stimulation is meant to help by employing producing the superb suited variety of hormones!!
