Need enlightenment. If you are against modern agricultural techniques, what cloth do you wear and what do you eat?

If you are against global warming caused by the green house gas emissions from power plants, where do you get your electricity?

If you are against the pollution of the oceans from man made/generated runoff, where do you "poo"?

looney,
I'm not a pessimist, better description would be a realist.Nothing man does has a "zero" net impact on the ecology.Where do we draw the line between fanaticism and reality?

I'm not an "ecological fanatic" however I do try to be environmentally friendly. I do this through a variety of means:
I use my bike and legs more than my car, but my car does get good gas mileage. I try to cluster my errands that I do need my car for; and I take my roommates along, we all get our shopping done in one trip as opposed to three, also it's more fun. I wear regular clothes but also a few of my clothing items come from companies like Patagonia (they have very environmentally friendly practices) and occasionally I shop at thrift stores. I also have one pair of hemp Converse and they have lasted longer than the regular canvas ones. I buy a mix of foods, some at my local food co-op (that I bike to) and features local produce/products, but also I shop at Trader Joe's and Vons. I don't really limit absolutely everything that I buy but I do make an effort to get things locally, and that are organic. When I am older and will be buying my own house I will either look for one or will add such features like extra insulation, solar panels, small square footage, plenty of greenery and efficient lighting.
These are all personal things that I do.
However when it comes to the more overtly political I do support specific issues, like:
cap and trade programs for emissions, greater investment in
alternative energy sources, keeping up the park system, limits on whaling and fishing, the development of public transit, and reforming the Farm Bill.

Not sure if I understand the point of your question, (I also don't think you understand the point of your question.)

But to give you answers, I wear normal designer brand clothes just like everyone else. However you don't hear me complain about modern agricultural techniques. There are some who will only where hemp, hemp products and other items for whatever reason they personally choose.

As for energy there are a number of different sources to obtain energy. I purchase my energy from a company who only utilizes green and renewable sources. It is an option and choice I made for myself. Both of my vehicles are in the tops of fuel economy and I'm waiting for an expansion in the technology to expand my green mobile.

As for the pollution problem with the oceans, I poo in a normal restroom just like everybody else I guess. However does that not mean that we shouldn't explore avenues that reduce or eliminates our waste flowing into the oceans?

The political side of enviromentalists only ask that we make changes to reduce our effect on the gobal ecology. What is so wrong with that? There are so many complaints about smog, pollution, etc. Why not do something about it. Have you seen all the krap in the air in LA? How about Houston, Dallas, San Francisco etc. Is there any coincidence that the highest population with breathign problems are in the nations most polluted cities. We have the ability and technology to change this without altering our way of life, why not do so?

You grow hemp for cloth, yams, beans, squash, corn, soybeans or whatever for food. You grow just what you need to eat. It's called 'horticulture,' a pre-agrarian form of substistance. Of course, you can also smoke the hemp.

You don't use electricity. You sleep when it's dark and work when the sun comes up.

You dig a hole in the ground, when it gets too full and stinky, you cover it up, plant something on top of it, and dig a new one.

The problem with the above answers, of course, is that, quite appart from giving up the various monumental accomplishments of civilization, the Earth is able to support only some tens of millions of human beings in that lifestyle. It just takes a lot of land per person to keep people going in the horticultural mode.

That's 99% of the world's population you have to get rid of before you can live 'in harmony with nature.'

so the results justify the means? Not to my way of thinking, sound to me like you are annoyed that people are considering the ugliness that all of the things you just mentioned have spawned, sure there is more food than ever and yet hunger rages on, sure we have nice tidy toilets that dump our excrement.. where? who cares as long as I can wipe my bum with that soft Charmin, and the gas in my car is there by default because the petrol and auto industries along with their lobbying might have crushed every possible example of alternative technology for the last 75 years... amazing that we would leave the solution up to the people that caused the trouble in the first place...
The politics of economic terrorism is a better subject..... I think

You sound like everyone should just give up trying to improve things- how pessimistic. We may not be able to fix all the problems, but there are lots of small choices that can make a difference. You can limit your electricity and water use. Don't use plastic bags. Recycle whatever you can. Be thrifty, not wasteful. Anything helps.

When do you propose we should implement programs to reduce green house emissions and or dependency on oil?

Some of us are doing everything possible to make our government and industry respond to these imminent threats.

What is your suggested date or incident to begin being concerned?

All righty. Perhaps we should do nothing. Dont remember that the Chicago river once actually caught fire. Dont remember the Love canal. Dont remember dangerous levels of mercury in fish. Dont remember the phrase "don't s**t where you eat.
