been wearing my suede arizona birks since 1992. Am 32 years old. They are super comfy. Though not for all feet. my mom can't wear them they are not good for her high arches.
they are definately in if you live in the san francisco area like I do...home of birkenstock.

I don't want to sound mean, but I don't think they were ever "in". I think that if you are searching for versatile sandals that are super comfortable, you can most definitely do better.
I am 26 years old and I remember when people in my Junior high started to wear those. They even wore them with socks. it didn't look good then and, it doesn't look good now.
I would say, get some leather & cork flip flops, cute flats or even Crocs is now making cuter versions of their rubber shoe. (I hate their original design though)
