I'm afraid to pick up people I know, let alone a stranger hitch hiker. Gender doesn't matter. Neither does age or race in this day and time. I would help them contact someone who could possibly help them out. I would keep the car running, crack the window and ask them if there is a number i could call for them. I'd make the call, then talk to the person on the other end and tell them that someone needed help and where they were located. That's the best I could do considering people today.

I picked up a hitch hiker once. It was an elderly woman and she was heading towards the local nursing home in the middle of a snow storm. I found out she was heading to work and had to walk because her car wouldn't start and the home would have been short-handed if she didn't get there. That was the last time though.

I have picked up a woman before. She was walking along a very open stretch of road and it was obvious there was no way anybody could be "hiding in ambush" or anything. It was a cold day, and it turned out I think she was running from an abusive guy, so I was very glad that I stopped to help her.
As a rule, I don't stop if I don't feel like it is completely safe, and I haven't been put in that situation that many times. I have stopped at a safe distance and rolled down the window a crack and yelled and offered to go get help or use my cell phone when it looked obvious that someone had car trouble.
A couple of other times, my husband and I were together and we have stopped to help, but again these were stranded motorists, not technically hitchhiikers.

I once did. It was a female. She was running away from her crazy boyfriend. We dated for a while and we got married. Weird story, but true. But to really answer your question, I wouldn't pick up another hitch hiker. She was just an exception.
P.S. Thanks for the 2 points.

Not in this day and age, no way, no how. Dangerous people come in all forms, and women can be just as dangerous as men. I may pull over, and ask if they would like for me to call someone for them. But I would have my car doors locked while I asked them that.
Back in the 70's I did pick up hitchhikers occasionally, and I even hitchhiked, myself from time to time. But it's a different world now. I still trust others, and I help others whenever I see I can.........but I keep my eyes wide open while I do it.

I'm a female, and I pick up male hitchhikers all the time. I live in the country, so if I don't pick them up it could be forever until they get a ride. I take my chances, I know, but I meet some really cool people. Life is all about chances.

well on a bike im too scared cause i heard these guy sit behind you and inject you with infected blood of an AIDS patient ..its true!!! and in my car i hate taking even my friends because they dont tap their feet outside and bring all that dust in >:P .. i cant even think of bringin a stranger in, now if a stranger was stranded i would analyse the situation, make sure the place is not setup for an ambush ( places where people can hide) thne make suer i can take one the stranger if any situation arises and then asks questions with the window pulled up before lettin anybody in :P

Depends on the situation, if the weather is bad and the person looks somewhat normal probably yes, I am just a nice person that way, however you do need to be careful, yes there are very crazy sick people out there too. It is a judgment call.

Hell no! I think now days the hitchhiker and the driver both would have to be crazy. Because a sane person would not want to do both knowing the danger out there. P.S there have been serial killer women out there.
