I'm assuming it is a bad fan, but it could be anything. If you're under warranty, i think you should take it in, because it is not normal.

If it's under warranty, send it off to get looked at. If not You should have it looked at by someone who knows what there doing. The Geek Squad at Best Buy has been suggested and is probably the best people to look at it.
Laptops are complicated to work on since everything is so small. Plus manufacturers have many ways of actually building laptops.
Opening up your laptop isn't impossible. If your willing to do a little digging on the manufacturers website to find directions on how to do different explorations into you lappy, it could pay off. With a little self confidence you can do it. Just remember where each screw came from and where each wire was connected when you take it appart.

It is probably the fan. Computers have fans in them to cool the machine--all that electricity creates a lot of heat!
Over time fans wear out and make all sorts of annoying noises. If the fan ever stops it could irreparably damage your computer.
If it's really annoying see if you can get someone to replace the fan. If not, you can probably safely ignore it. Just be aware that it may be wearing out and take notice if your computer ever seems to get extremely hot. Usually there is an automatic shutoff if it gets to a dangerous temperature.
The noise could also be your hard drive. Hard drives make a scratchy kind of clicky noise when they are working. If it's really loud your hard drive may be about to die, but sometimes it's just part of normal operation.

Ina laptop strange sounds typically emanate from the hard drive or a bad fan. Either way - back up your data! It is fairly easy to replace a hard drive in most laptops, but you may have trouble finding a fan with the right connections and form factor. If you are not technically inclined you may want to take it to a computer repair shop. Again - back up your data!

Could be that something was pulled into the cpu fan cooling port. You might want to have this checked. A blocked cooling fan can cause allot of damage.

Could be something inside rubbing against the fan. However, I don't recommend you opening your laptop to see what it is. Take it to the Geek Squad at Best Buy and have a pro look at it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but there are only two moveable parts inside a laptop; a hard drive and a fan. It's one or t'other.

It could be that you have something in there you are not aware of, like a piece of plastic, and it's caught in the fan housing.
