So you can fit the repaired tire and wheel back on the mower with out having to have some one hold the mower up!

I never do. I use a shop jack and block the tires on the opposite end of the mower so it doesn't roll. You only need it to be raised a couple inches to remove the tire and wheel.

Just easier to work on it.
Blocking the mower up is recommended rather than tilting it over since ,the crankcase oil can flow back into the carburetor.
Instead of just changing the wheel you have a mess to clean up & maybe flush the whole thing & change the plug.

well it makes it easier to work on
if you remove the back tire besure you do not lose the half moon key that mounts in the axle. It will not roll if this is left out.
