Assuming it is granite, a great cleaner is TileLab because it gets off all of the surface dirt. If the granite is weathered or pitted, there is a stone polish that came in my dremmel works nicely with the buffer implement to remove them. I also use the TileLab sealer once I am finished because it does protect the surface against the elements and keeps the head stone looked shiny and polished longer. (PS the sealer will change the color slightly on unhoned granite like where the writing is or if the sides are left unhoned. I leave the writing unsealed because I like the contrast) RIP Boo

If its a marble headstone then use undiluted flash using a wash up sponge, that should bring the grime and rubbish off the surface, you can then dry it off and polish with a duster or a pot towel to bring up the shine

i visit my nan yearly and use a battery drill with a buffer pad and turtle wax (car polish)

I do not know what material its made of,but if it is granite,I use regular car polish.Mothers Wax does a wonderful job.
