Is the United States currently giving up a little liberty for a little security; have we since WWII?

To QuiteNew, I was not quoting, however,
By Essential Liberty he meant Liberty and not the mere essentials.

Franklin, who in the Poor Richard's Almanack of 1738 is known to have written a similar proverb: "Sell not virtue to purchase wealth, nor Liberty to purchase power."

"Some " liberty is the defining qualifier.
During Benjamin's time, those liberties were the ones now taken for granted. I believe his original version is this

"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

There is a huge difference between "some " liberties and "essential liberties".
We should not mix up the two.

Ben warned against exactly what is happening now, and yes we are without a doubt giving up liberties. The director of homeland security said the other week that Americans were going to have to give up certan liberties, which at first people say fine however it goes into other areas as well. Ben Franklin also warned us about our legal system. The constitution is there for a reason

You'd find much to contemplate in Ted Flynn's "Hope of the Wicked," which is a collection of public domain statements by leaders who promote the "anti-Franklin" exchange.

Ben Franklin is a true political Saint, much as is Mahatma Gandhi ("Gandhi, the Man: The Story of His Transformation," Eknath Easwaran, Ph.D.).

Http://www.coasttocoastam.com radio (click on "Affiliates" button for local station) has guests who occasionally speak to this subject. For example, this Wednesday (Nov. 28th), Pat Buchanan will be guesting, and Thursday evening, Steve Quayle on "Weather Wars."

Also, http://www.prisonplanet.com does a similar (to Ted Flynn) public-documents-posting, much as does the Drudge Report http://www.drudgereport.com but more "selectively."

cordially,

j.
