Fudge is a tradition at our house that goes back to when I was a little girl. My dad was the fudge-maker at our house, and he passed the recipe down to me. The story he told was that he learned how to make it when he was the only boy in a homemaking class full of girls. My dad was the shyest and manliest man you could ever imagine, so picturing him in a home ec class either because he was there to flirt with the girls or exploring his feminine side was very amusing!
Now, since he has passed away, I am the family fudge-maker, and I hope to pass the tradition down to my kids. It's a really easy recipe (the one off the Kraft marshmallow package or the Marshmallow creme jar), but it's quite delicious, and now has a lot of sentimental meaning. Every time I show up at an extended family gathering with this familiar plate or tin of chocolate-pecan fudge squares, you can see the nostalgic smile as the relatives who knew my dad remember him through this simple gesture--it's a way of keeping his memory alive. The link below is to a recipe very similar to the one I use, except I don't use the milk chocolate morsels (all dark semi-sweet) and I use pecans instead of walnuts. The trick is to boil it for EXACTLY 5 minutes and have the pan or plate greased and the choc, nuts, and vanilla measured up and ready to mix in quickly as soon as the 5 mins are up. (And if you use marshmallows instead of creme, it takes exactly 17 full-size marshmallows--sorry I have no idea how many minis to use!

My favorite Christmas Candy is hard to find. It is the extremely thin Ribbon Candy.

Don't know if this counts or not, but I love Peppermint Stick Ice cream. This little ice cream shop in my town makes their own every year. It's the best!

If that doesn't count, my grandma makes these cookie/candy things with Ritz crackers spread with peanut butter and marshmallow cream, coated with chocolate. They are a tradition at Christmas for our family!

My Mom makes the best Christmas candy, in my opinion. She makes pralines and peanut patty. She makes them every yr and sends it to everyone. I also like the soft peppermint sticks.*
