If you insist.

The Bible says no such thing. It says that the lesser light was to rule over the night, which it does when it's up. It doesn't say that it's always there.

Because it's not a science book. The behavior of the moon does not have a direct effect on your spiritual well-being. So the Bible doesn't have to get the details exactly right. We can see the moon in the day, but we can't really tell the difference in illumination because the sun is so much brighter. So the moon "comes out at night to light the earth." That's its metaphysical function, to act as a divine night light. It doesn't say anything about the phases when it DOESN'T come out at night, or what the significance of a heavy overcast is, but these are ephemeral details. Leave the mechanics to science.

I agree with cameron_m_johnson, the bible does NOT say the moon only comes out at night. It only says, "God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night". Just because the Moon does not rule the day is no reason to believe it is excluded from the day any more than all people other than the king are excluded from the kingdom just because they do not rule it.

i pass to action image movie star this question by using very reality i could be prepared to ascertain if surely all of us can upward push up with a Bible verse that announces the Earth is flat. My Bible does no longer say this kind of element everywhere. It does say, "God sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its human beings are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy and spreads them out like a tent to stay in." Isaiah 40:22 References to the circle of the earth, the starting to be and putting of the picture voltaic etc. are examples of the literary device many circumstances used as suitable language, the position a given phenomenon is defined because curiously that of route to human beings on earth, really than what medical properites it can have. as right now as that reality is taken into the equation, Isaiah 40:22 can't be taken to characterize that the Bible teaches the Earth to be flat. the purely element atheists can bounce on is the a lot later interpretations of the Bible through a few religionists, yet it truly is completely diverse to affirming the Bible says that! Interpretations change. The Bible not in any respect does.

It's a good question, really. Even the ancients who wrote the bible must surely have known that the moon is out during the day as often as at night, yet they chose to write it the way it was written. Perhaps they were just clueless nomads and we should pay them no attention.

It's how you read it, and also you have to remember it has been translated from ancient languages.

If you say "the moon only comes out at night", then that is obviously wrong.

But if you say "the moon only comes out at night to give light to Earth", that could be read as if only at night is its purpose to give light, whereas its purpose in the day is not to give light.

But in all seriousness, the Bible contains a lot of poetic allegories - meaning that they are symbolic guidances for God's chosen.

After all, the idea that Noah squeezed a pair of every land animal on his ark is blatantly stupid, unless you read it as symbolic of faith in God and what happens if you live a life of sin.

I get this picture of Noah buzzing all over the world to get Kangaroos in Australia, Jaguars in South America, Orangs in Borneo.

It makes me wonder how anyone in this day and age, with our current wealth of knowledge can believe implicitly these tales that were written by people who did not have access to the knowledge we have.

So what you are really trying to tell us is that you are having beef with a brain dead literal interpretation of the bible which is not supported by a single serious theologian but is mostly popular among home schooled American sectarians?

Big deal. Not.

But if you want to have a "pseudo-theological" discussion, why not go to the religion section of Yahoo Answers? You will find more than enough idiots to discuss this nonsense with you over there!

Pretend that you know nothing about astronomy and helio-centric orbits of the planets. Pretend you know nothing about photons and conservation of energy. Now go out at night and try to explain why the moon is up there.

Chances are you'd think of an explanation pretty similar to the Bible... or Roman Mythology... or Native American... or Troglodyte...

well, dont take the opinion of someone who is a top contributor in the wrestilng category seriously. the bible states that the lesser light will rule the night. not be the only light in the sky, because it talks about the stars in the firmament. i can only assume that its because darker is more conducive to sleep than lighter.

The bible is not a book of fact. It is a book of interpretations for you to make. Astrology is not best looked at with religion in mind.
