I need the California Code for this. I paid with cash and a credit card, they ran my credit card, don't see why they need a copy of my credit card and my Drivers License.

Yep. Your options aren't very good. You can stay stranded, or you can give up the CC and ID. They are only ensuring the name of the person who is liable and a way to be paid.

I could see a copy of your lic. as proof of who picked up/paid for vehicle but if they ran your credit card for the bill there isnt any reason for a copy. i cant see why. did you call and speak with the office manager and ask if this is common practice there? also if it was towed and the cops were involved why not try asking the officer who handled it. i wouldnt have been comfortable with that either.

Yes. People HATE being towed, so they often try to do things like call the credit card company and say "Someone else used my card."

Yes, if you want to get your car towed. They want some sort of assurance that they will get paid. If you can't or won't do that, they don't have to tow your car.

But check your next few statements closely, to be sure you don't get any surprise charges.

Yes. It's legal for you to refuse, and it's legal for them to decline to serve you.
