I'm in this depression support group online and one night we named all the sad songs we could think of. Here are the ones I think are the saddest:
1. Everything That Glitters is Not Gold by Dan Seals (Wife divorces man, abandons daughter, and their horse needs to be put down.)
2. I'm so Happy That I Can't Stop Crying by Toby Keith/Sting (A Divorce song from a man's point of view.)
3.And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda by Pouges (A song about WWI and the band plays WM during different points in the war: when they ship out, when they get blown away, when they bury their dead, when he wakes up in the hospital and finds he has no legs, when they ship back, and the future parades. This was written during the Vietnam era, a statement against glorifying war.)
4. The Little Girl by John Michael Montgomery (Girl's dad kills wife and then himself while she hides behind the couch.)
5. My name's not Lisa by Jesse Coulter (A man calls out for his first love, and his present love hears him.)
6.Patches by Clarence Carter (The guy loses his parents, drops out of school, and loses the farm all in under 4 minutes.)
7.Alyssa Lies by Jason Carroll (A child beaten to death.)
8.The Long Black Veil by Johny Cash (Innocent man is executed and he refused to give his alabi, on the night in question he was with his best friend's wife.)
9. Honey by Bobby Goldsboro (Guy's wife died, I always thought she killed herself but I could be wrong)
10.Whiskey Lullaby by Brad Paisley (2 alcoholics deal with their heartache by killing themselves by alcohol poisioning.)
11.She's gonna make it by Garth Brooks (A guy wants a divorce but when he sees how great she's doing, he realizes what he lost).
12. Skin by Rascall Flats (Girl has cancer, loses hair, fears no one will take her to prom, has a great date who shows up with a shaved head).
These are in no particual order, they all make me bawl. It's funny that I'm not a huge fan of country music, but over half of the songs on my list are country.

Well I am a man so I don't cry!!!!
If I had to pick a song that makes me sad it would be a tie between "Mother" by John Lennon and "I Just Wanna Stop" by Gino Vannelli.
