He trashed the place, so his dad talked to him about it and decided to nothing unless it happens again. I say don't let him have access to the house while we are gone out of town. He lives with his mom half of the time, and our house half the time. The kid thinks it is none of my business and told me to keep out of it, right in front of his dad. Dad just tells him to shut his mouth and changes the subject. My question to you, what would you do? Dad refuses to talk to me about it.

His dad has told him not to have friends over when we are gone out of town. The kid knew better.

First of all if you were my wife and my kid talked to you with that kind of disrespect I would kick his seventeen year old a**

Second you are right, He don't need to be in your house if you are not there.

And third your husband needs to stick up for you or this kid will never respect you.

Have you ever considered that your stepson is emotionally conflicted as any normal teenager, or that he might be acting out towards his dismay and frustration regarding his parents divorce? His father, who clearly does not have a clue how to deal with the underlined issues does not deal with the situation because it is easier to ignore it than to own up to his part in what ever is causing his son to act out. Your not wrong in feeling angered by this clear act of disrespect, but your handling the situation incorrectly and that is why neither your husband or his son is willing to talk to you.

sounds like the kid needs an *** whoopin. It sounds like this kid thinks he can get away with anything he wants - and his Dad lets it happen. Dad needs to reprimand this kid or things will only get worse.
