It means he's trying to be a complete loser jackass dead-beat "dad" and shirk his responsibilities. It means that you need to get in to see your local child support agency and open a case and make sure he's paying everything that's owed to you for the kids HE helped to make!

I am not sure what a 1099 has to do with anything at all but I would talk to the court system & see what you can do. If you don't have a case yet in family court (domestic relations) then you need to get one. Don't rely on him to pay you....ex husbands are only out to keep you from getting any money...they don't realize what it takes to raise a child nor do they care. They only see it as YOU are taking their money. If you go through the court system they have ways of making them pay up...all states are different but some have laws that if the father is a deadbeat they will suspend his drivers license or other stuff.

A 1099 is another way of reporting income, like if you get unemployment or Social Security. I have no idea why he thinks it means he doesn't have to pay child support. My friend now gets $750 per month from an ex, even though her son is a married adult, because he didn't pay the $150 per month when the child was 5. Eventually it will catch up, but it would be better if these deadbeats would pay when you need it.

A 1099 simply means that he is considered "self-employed" by the government. (IE taxes aren't taken out of his check- he needs to settle up at the end of the year.) This does not excuse him from child support!! Call your local human services agency and tell them exactly what he told you. I'm sorry to say but it might mean taking him to court but there are resources out there that may help you.
Also, his girlfriend and him are taking advantage of the system. I doubt she reported him as living with her or she would not be living in "free" housing. When I think of the children that actually need this, it makes me sick. File a fraud report on these two bums! If you do not want to do it officially (even thought you can remain anonymous) just make sure that the child support worker knows about their living arrangement and they will do the rest.
I wish you all the best! Good Luck!

Rein is correct. There are different circumstances that rate getting a 1099, I get one for all my disability pay from the military. It is non-taxable pay so it doesn't go on a w-2.
He probably quit paying taxes (perfectly legal) from his paycheck and will pay them every quarter or 6 months. Then he won't get a penny back at the end of the year - that means the government won't have his tax return to give you when he files. So apparently he has no intention of paying you and is looking for ways to hurt you. Go tell the friend of the court he quit paying. If he doesn't at least try to fix it, he can spend all his free time in jail.

Stay on it, whether he is working or not, the back child support will add up, and the child could be 50 by the time it all gets paid, but it is STILL owed! It goes by the date the order was filed, not any other, so if you don't have a child support order GO GET ONE NOW! you do NOT have to be divorced to get a support order either (not sure if you are or not) You can also have this loser thrown in jail after a certain dollar amount is owed. Also, he will have to be in court several times if he continues to not pay, and the judge will make him get a job, or go to jail.

Hmmm.....sounds like my ex fiance who just left. Told him to leave to think about his popping pills to make up for his quitting alcohol and scaring me that he was going to die. Couple days later he met a woman and moved in. A 1099 is a tax form that he would have signed stating that he is paying his own taxes and they are not being taken out by an employer. It would be just like if he was a subcontractor working for a contractor that gave him work and he had to pay his own taxes on that money. Maybe he plans on falsley reporting no earnings? You need to go after him by legal means. Also, you did not say why his girlfriend lives in free housing. If she is being subsidized through government assistance in any way, chances are he cannot legally be living with her without jeopardizing her assistance being taken away and her being thrown out. Maybe that would be the best thing that could happen. Don't you think? Then maybe he would HAVE TO learn some responsibilty and take care of his kids. I feel bad you are going through this. It is always a shock to me to find out what people we loved and trusted are capable of. If he is still drinking, his alcoholic behavior will prevent him from seeing things clearly. Ask a judge to remand him to treatment.

you can make life real miserable for him, a 1099 is the way self employeed people get paid, he is an iddiot. He does have to pay child support whethter he works or not and if he is staying with some chick in free housing she and he can be kicked out because on ly she and her children should live theere. Turn them in.

He is a jerk and is trying to pull one over on you. A 1099 is just a different way to be paid rather than a standard W2. On a 1099, you get paid your full wage without taxes being taken out. You are responsible for filing and paying your own taxes.
On a W2, your employer pays the taxes for you from your pay.
Your husband is just as responsible for paying child support as before.
Take care,
Troy

A 1099 is a form that you use to report income to the IRS from investments, etc.
Child support IS NOT tax deductible. He does not need anything from you because he cannot claim it on his taxes, nor do you have to claim it as income.
Obviously, the alcohol has rotted his brain.
You need to get a court order, if you don't already have one, that states how much child support he owes you each month. Then, if he does not pay, you can take him to task.

As far as the laws go in my state. If you the childs father you pay and you are not living with the mother of the child you pay. Child support should be established as part of your divorce settlement. If he is not paying you now, he'll be behind once the judgment has passed and will owe back child support. If he ever finds employment, he would not get an income tax return until he is current on child support payments. Odds are in your favor. Good Luck!
