Well, this isn't in response to your question.
But, to warn you, 2 Tiger barbs isn't really enough to keep them healthy. The reason is that they are agressive and nippy. With just 2 the stronger one is going to beat up the weaker one. If you make a school of around 6 fish, then the beatings and nipping get spread around and 1 fish isn't as likely to get all the attention.

Good luck, and remember, Tiger barbs aren't very friendly.

A good rule of thumb to go by is that the male is usually the prettier more color full of the two. And I agree with the other answer that said you need more so that they won't fight with each other so much. If you want something else they are good with most types of Gouramies and rainbow or red-tailed sharks. They are all semi-aggressive fish so they will mix well with each other. Just make sure that each one that you get has a pair or a mate. Get two at a time. It will keep the fighting down.

you are able to favor to commerce them in for much less agressive fish- even as barbs are nonetheless comunity fish they opt for to chase one yet another, and 5 galleons would not provide the "sufferers" a lot room to swim away. you've better success with a small college (3-5) og guppies, neons, mollies, zebra danios or something similar. in case you truly opt for to save your barbs, try is to placed some hiding places on your tank- puppy shops promote hollow embellishes with holes for this purpose. In a pinch you are able to placed some sideways mugs to make "caves" basically be confident there is not any cleansing soap on them.

females have a mostly black dorsal fin while males have a orange/red line on the edge of the drosal fin.
