That's activity of volcano's in the Mediterranean area...

Especially in Italy and in Greece (Aegean Sea) and further to the east in Turkey, there are quite a few active volcano's. This is a map of the Mediterranean area, showing known or inferred Holocene eruptions: http://www.volcano.si.edu/world/region.cfm?rnum=01
Some of these are NOT active anymore though! So the map does NOT show active volcano's...

If your question is about when a volcano is active:
There is no real consensus among volcanologists on how to define an "active" volcano. The lifespan of a volcano can vary from months to several million years, making such a distinction sometimes meaningless when compared to the lifespans of humans or even civilizations. For example, many of Earth's volcanoes have erupted dozens of times in the past few thousand years but are not currently showing signs of eruption. Given the long lifespan of such volcanoes, they are very active. By human lifespans, however, they are not.

Hope this clarifies your question???

Italy has frequent activity in the south, such as Mt. Etna in Sicily, as well as infamous Vesuvius. There is a dying convergent zone in the Aegean which has arisen such volcanoes as Thera (Santorini) which has had a massive eruption around 3600 years ago, plus other volcanoes.

It is what it is. Volcanoes erupt every now and then in volcanic activity zones througout the sea in areas such as Italy and Greece and so forth.
