Without a doubt. When in a war, you don't want to come in 2nd place or have a photo finish.

Yes. Why would anyone want a country like China, or Mexico be dominant? Aren't their people starving, and looking for a better way of life? If not, why are the Hispanics invading America, and every Chinese person skinny, except for their communist leaders? Neither country is supporting their people. China is Communist, and Mexico is.....living off America.

NO ABSOLUTELY NOT
And yes I am an american. Too many people point out that the world is never happy with one dominant power. It makes treaties and agreements not work, it makes the world nervous. Consider the fact that the World Wars were caused by that.
And dont give me any evil vs good garbage. It doesnt matter who the big dog is and what they do. The other dogs will get nervous and band up against it. The US will have a hard time accomplishing any "good" when they are the only world power.
I think that Bush chose the worst possible timing for having the US invade a country and change their government "for their own good". Whether its true or not, it still isnt settling well with everyone. And I mean EVERYONE

Yes, and I encourage every other free nation with strong people out there to do the same either by making a strong military or by maintaining strong military allies. It is Completely Health for any Nation whose goal is to shoot for the moon, make it, and shoot for something even farther, to have a dominant military or a strong military alliance with another sizable military.

Well, this is actually a rather "hot" topic. I object to us behaving as hypocrits. We currently have nuclear capabilities, yet we wish to stop others from possessing the same type of weaponry. This is hyocritical in my humble opinion.
I fully understand the dangers humans pose one another. Until we can learn to live and let live, stop attempting to force each other to our preferred way of life, (I mean all countries, not just one or two) and put down our weapons, we will never truly be able to claim we are civilized.
With that said, the world is a dangerous place. Many American's live in a bubble, in denial of how dangerous it really is. Peace is a great goal, but to state we shouldn't defend ourselves in order to show we have only peaceful intentions, is foolhardy at best, and disasterous at worst. We would soon find outselves with a foreign ruler, and the freedoms so many take for granted would be lost to us.
So, I firmly believe in a large military presence. Only for self protection, not to go attack on the basis of withheld oil or other products we want or need here.
Don't you find it odd that the only countries we "help" out are those who have resources we want or need? Such as large oil reserves that are sold? There are so many poor people who are right this minute being killed, torturned, raped, and slaughtered and we do nothing about it because that country has nothing we want or need. Look how long it took us to act in Bosnia. Wide spread genocide was occurring, yet we allowed it to go in indefenintly, until the American people had enough of watching the butcher, and spoke up loudly enough those in office had to do something or risk losing their seats at the next election.
So, yeah, as long as we use it for defense only, not to intimadate or harrass another country to give up resources or price it as we wish, not as they wish, and stop attempting to push our own way of life onto people who are very dififerent. I do not believe in forcing our beliefs, morals, integrity, or way of life onto others, and certainly do not want others doing so to me either.
If a strong military presense will keep our freedoms and way of life then I agree we need such a presence. However, we have no right to deny others the same benifits we enjoy. The freedom from constant fear of invasion, etc. Every country has the right to safeguard their people too, just as we do.
I just pray that we don't blow the world to little bits in the process of attempting real civilization.

We basically do. Pretty much every country with nuclear weapons fits that category.
Think of it this way, when was the last time you heard of a military attack on anythign US? Not in my lifetime. What we have to worry about is nutjob small-potatoes groups that don't consider the odds rationally.

I think we stick our noses in too many places that it does not belong. ie - Korea, Vietnam. It seems like the progression just keeps happening and nothing good comes out of it. War is never the answer...
We should be concentrating on the issues on the home front. Housing market, the plummeting dollar, and the state of our gov't. It is all a mess. I just hope the military cannot defend us from ourselves.

I think we do, wasn't that what ended the Soviet Union ?
The irrationality / insanity here, is that various Government Administrations get us involved in conflicts where we don't belong, and then tell the military, OH, My, you can't bomb here, or lay mines there, or use any weapons or techniques the enemy can't match,...of course I'm talking about Vietnam, and hopefully not Iraq, Afghanistan, or Pakistan.

Yes, and we had that during Reagan. Clinton under funded, and downsized it so much that it led to the problems we are seeing today with our military being stretched to its breaking point.
