Last year i lent out my ps2 to my uncle because he wanted to play it. I didnt want to give it to him because i knew if i lent it out something would happen. And sure enough something did. But my uncle never did anything wrong to it. I trust him also when he says that . When i gave it to him it was able to read discs perfectly. But now whenever i put in a game or dvd it says disc read error. Whats the matter with it? The house it was in for about a year, the people were chronic smokers. My ps2 was never around smoke for almost 7 years. Could this be why its not working anymore? And how would i fix this?

There are several possible problems that can cause the disk read error in the PS2:

1. Dirty/scratched discs.
2. Dirty laser head.
3. Misaligned laser head.
4. Faulty laser power output.

It doesn't sound like you have damaged disks, but more probably a dirty laser head and or a misaligned laser. To fix these, you will most likely need to open your console and manually clean the laser head or readjust it. Though this is not a difficult process, it does require a few simple tools and guidance.

You can also purchase a 'disk head cleaner' that is available at most electronics stores. Though this may work if the problem is a dirty laser-head, it won't repair a misaligned laser.

I had this problem with my PS2, and I bought a repair guide that helped me fix it. I had to readjust the laser, but it wasn't that hard.

Hope that helps.

go to the local record store and buy a laser lens cleaner. Follow the instructions and see if that clears anything up.

If not, it may be that your PS2 is starting to kick the bucket. Failure to read disks is the first sign that it may be on its way to the big game room in the sky.

Its more than likely attributed to the age of the PS2, seven years is a long time for a gaming system. My advise to you is just buy a new system.

You cant play any discs? Thats messed up. Is the CD slot loose or wobbly? I would check that. Otherwise just buy a new one.

Is your playstation saying "disk read error to all the disk?" because it's not your playstation it is the disk it might not be cleaned enought or it might have a crack in it, anyone of these things can be a sign of a bad disk or a old disk. checks all you disk out and see how many say that.

if u had it for 7 yrs than u got your moneys worth. after a while its burns out. mine did the same thing. after 5 yrs of playing it just stopped. i smoked around mine and it worked, it probably got dropped or knocked off of something and hit the floor hard or like i said just old and time for a new one.

The lens may be dirty, the dics may be scratched, the system is old so it might just be on its last legs.
