I'm going to be 20 weeks pregnant 2 days after christmas my doctor wants us to wait til we are 22 weeks pregnant to have an ultrasound done. I really don't want to wait that long with my daughter she told me at 16 or 17 weeks. Is there anywhere else you can go to get an ultrasound?I really wanted to be able to tell everyone at christmas what we were having and infact we had the idea of not finding out and having the tech write down what it is and opening at christmas. So is there anyway i can get one or anywhere else? we live in arkansas i dont know if that really matters or not but thank you.

This will not be a substitute for having your doctor do the normal ultrasound, and your insurance will not likely cover it, it's strictly a treat to find out the gender and "visit" your baby so that you can make your announcement... later you will have your normal ultrasound with your doctor also.

You should probably be able to get your ultrasound rescheduled but I must tell you there is no guarantee you will be able to tell what the sex of the baby is every time an ultrasound is done. Sometimes the baby is in a bad position or moving too much. I was 16 weeks at my first ultrasound and they couldn't tell anything.

I must add that finding out the sex of the baby is not necessity for the doctor. They are more concerned about how your baby is growing and if they look normal/healthy. If you don't find out the sex of the baby through your usual ultrasound they are unlikely to schedule you for another just to find out the sex. You would have to pay for it yourself if you decided to have another.

The doctor's office is probably booked. However, if you're desperate for an ultrasound sooner, you COULD go to one of those 'pregnancy crisis centers' (look in the phone book -- in the Bible Belt, I'm sure there are tons). Often they'll do an ultrasound on the spot in order to persuade a woman wanting an abortion to keep the baby. But if you do go this route, be prepared for a lot of lecturing and potentially disturbing material.

If your doctor's office has another branch you could try that.

I would try rescheduling. I had my ultrasound scheduled for December 6th, but I just found out we're going out of town. I was expecting them to schedule it for later, but they actually scheduled me for Monday. Try that! Good luck :)
