Will Twins fans care anymore if Santana is traded? Him and Hunter are basically the reason why people even mentions Minnesota. Will it hurt their ticket sales? If he is traded, Santana certainyl is worth more than some top prospects from the Yankees. It goes to show that if the organization does not have any loyalty to you, then you should leave. They are making a mistake by trading him because along with Liriano next season, they will be almost unstoppable as far as pitching goes. I say it's time to sell the team to someone who has deeper pockets.

I live in MN and I'm with you all the way. I could write a Novel on the MN Twins front office and their deadbeat owner Carl Pohlad. You may have missed my question earlier when I asked if MN Twins fans should boycott the team. I wish I could wake up one morning and not hear about the bone-headed logic Carl Pohlad and the Twins front office use. Terry Ryan got out before this storm hit. Good Luck Billy Smith. I'll see in 2010, but only because of the new stadium.

Minnesota didn't lose Hunter because they were cheap, Minnesota lost Hunter because Anaheim was stupid and thought Hunter was worth $18 mil a year.

What kind of production would you need from a single player for a Twin fan to say 'Hey, that's worth $18 mil a year'

Does .267 with 28 homers, 107 rbis (or something close to it) worth $18 mil a year?

If someone comes up from the farm or through a trade, hits .280 with 19 homers, 84 Rbis and 30 SB and costs $325,000, what do you think of then? Did the twins make a good business decision by not signing Hunter.

You can do two things to affect change at a fan level. Go to the games (they were 11th in AL attendence) or absolutely not go to games.

Do you expect for the owner, who has already shelled out money to buy the team, to merely break even or lose money year to year?

As the players are so fond of suggesting (even Hunter said) it's a business.

There is NOTHING that Hunter could buy with $18 million that he couldn't have bought for $12 mil a year, given that without baseball, he is very unlikely to have made $100k a year.

He could have stayed with the Twins, but he chose not to.

I think you are placing the blame on the wrong person.

While people talk about Pohlad being a crappy owner, the Twins just barely break even every year.

Would you sign Hunter and Santana and then lose multiple millions of dollars for the next 3 or 4 years (maybe more) until the new stadium kicks in?

Rich people dont get to be rich by throwing millions of dollars in the toilet.

Having said that, I do think they could have been smarter about the players they signed to help the young guys. Who knew that RonDL White would be hurt most the time or that Jeff Cirillo wouldnt be the answer? Almost every armchair GM in the world did, why didnt they?

Santana was originally open to resigning long term but the Twins have made decisions that he does not like so HE is the one that said that he was leaving after next season, they are SMART to make the move right now and get something for him! Hunter priced himself out of the Twins range; the Twins were not the dumb ones here the Angels were dumb for giving that much money to Hunter. Hunter is not to blame, he is making a business decision. The Twins still have a good base of talent and will still be a good team...until that well runs dry! The biggest mistake the Twins made was not trading Hunter last year!

Santana and Hunter are basically the reason why people even mentions Minnesota? What about Morneau(sp?). He was the MVP in 2006.

Unfortunately for Minnesota, they are a smaller market team with a lot of talent. They won't be able to retain this talent with teams like Boston, NY & Anaheim spending the way they spend. It's kind of a shame. I always think it's cool when one of these small market teams wins the world series.

I hope Minnesota bounces back but it will be tough without Santana and Hunter.

The Twins are doing the right move because by getting rid of Santana they get Cano and Chamberlain, possibly, and also they free up another 13 million this year to sign another player as well as maybe sign Carlos Sliva as well as extend Joe Nathan next year.

The owner of the Twins has deep pockets, he just has short fingers.
