Using tampons has nothing to do with being a virgin. Tampons are more narrow than a penis. Start with the lowest absorbancy possible. They are easier to insert. Get one with a plastic applicator that is contured. Read the instructions. To insert the tampon, you must be relaxed. Try by putting one foot on the toilet while standing. Don't leave it in anymore that 8 hours and wear a small pad in case it leaks.

no, it doesn't hurt and being a virgin doesn't make any difference. Start out with a regular sized tampon until you know for sure you need something larger. Also, start out using the ones with the applicator (Not sure how Yahoo!Answers feels about naming brands--but there is a popular brand that doesn't have an applicator--it comes in the teeny tiny box--if you tried to use those your first time out, you might not like tampons then). Read the instructions that come in the package before you try to use the tampons. And don't worry if you have to toss a couple before you get the hang of putting them in.
Also look around your family and see if you have an aunt or an older (preferably an adult) cousin who you can talk to about these things. If there really is no one, then get your dad to take you to the doctor so you can talk to the doctor. You need to be able to at least tell your dad that you have questions about "women's things" that you are too embarrassed to ask him about. I can almost guarantee that he'll work on getting someone for you to talk to.
Good Luck.

Hi In my opinion they do hurt, more when you are trying to get them out, plus im always worried about getting Toxic Shock Syndrome, even if you change them when you should I still think there is a risk of getting it and its not worth putting yourlife at risk when you can use pads.
I think they are unconfortable to wear and the first time is a right parp about as you have to relax and if you dont it can make insertion difficult and then you can get sore trying, then you have to make sure you have them in all the way or else you can feel them, so you have to take it out and then use another one etc. I know some people say that they cannot get stuck but the string can sometimes snap of and you have to go fishing inside your bits to get it out or go to the docs to get it out, and then panick starts if it happens straight away after 4 hours when it should of really been removed.
I think appart from the obvious male part etc nothing that you wear inside you can be comfortable, and besides I have read that fibres from the tampons can stuck inside your vagina and cause an infection also thrush is more common espcially if you are really sensitive down below.
I went on to trying them and I got fed up as they hurt getting them out even though I have left them for the recommended time and also I got sore after using them so I went back to pads.
I think people are just really paranoid when it comes to periods about the smell and seeing the pad etc, but at the end of the day pads are really good now and as long as you change them when you need to then they are great, and way more comfortable than a tampon, Women usually only wear a tampon when wearing thongs and certain underwear, but no one knows only you what you have on and if you comfortable then go with whatever you feel comfortable with.
I know quite alot of girls wear tampons and it doesnt matter weather you are a virgin or not, if you find it uncomfortable you probaly always will, but youmight get used to them then prefer them to pads, but this is just of my experiance with them.
But its pads all the way for me, you could also try a moon cup, just google it and see for more info

I would not recommemd using Tampons at first. you really need to waite until your peroid regulates. And you need to know that Tampons hurt some people all the time. But If you really want to try I would suggest getting some slender regular. They are not going to get stuck. But they may hurt. Hope this helps. I just had this chat with my daughter. Told her the decision would be hers to make but I did not recommemd tampons at first.
there is a really good web site listed below check it out and you make your mind.

Using a tampon for the first time doesn't hurt, even if you are a virgin. It won't get stuck, that is what the string is there for, to help you pull it out. Good luck!

maybe you need to talk to a drs nurse about this stuff. tampons are more comfortable than pads, and they dont hurt when you use them . virgins can use pads too.The directions are on the pack, and I find the best way to put a tampon in is to put one foot up on the toilet seat and slide it in(the tampon i mean).

just make sure you have some time, so your not getting stressed otherwise you will tense up which may cause it to hurt but onc you can relax it will not hurt. just read the leaflet you get in the packs and then you will have info and there is usualy an FAQ section on them so that will probably put any worries to rest.

It doesn't hurt when you put it in but don't take it out too soon. Make sure you leave it in for a couple hours so you've actually bled on it.
I know that sounds gross but if it's still dry it will hurt really bad when you try to pull it out. I know, I did it.
