I was never a huge fan of Cedric Benson- I always had my sights focused on Thomas Jones. A mistake of sorts really, considering what Benson had done to help the Bears achieve their success last season. Considering he shared time with Jones, 647 yards rushing and 6 TD's is, well, pretty damn impressive. When the Bears traded Jones away I was a bit shocked and frankly, a little sad. As a fan, I knew and understood that Benson was thought to be the future of the Bears ground game, but I wasn't prepared to give him the credit that he was due. This year I have been forced to take notice and embrace Benson- a shadowed tailback in my mind. Granted, he made some pivotal mistakes this year (3 fumbles namely), but I started thinking: if he can stay healthy, this could be okay. Unfortunately, Benson is out for the season. 674 yards and 4 TD's is all we will see from him this year. Hopefully he can get healthy (and stay healthy) for next year.
In the meantime, the Bears are faced with two interesting prospects: Adrian Peterson (not to be confused with our Viking friend) and (as I have affectionately dubbed him) Garrett "The Littlest Bear" Wolfe. Adrian Peterson is a veteran, who, I think can get the job done. He managed to stay calm and focused during a fourth-quarter comeback deficit of two-touchdowns; dragging (what looked like) 5 Broncos on his back for a 4 yard TD. And small as he is, Wolfe is fast. He moves well and he's hard to catch... This could be okay.
Am I optimistic? You bet.

Benson or ego boy as I call him since he has never lived up to the potential he has. Is no big loss.
I live in Austin watched Benson at UT and am a huge Bears fan. Trade Benson draft a QB and figure out how to move the ball.

I think Benson's injury actually helps the Bears. With Benson out, Peterson is going to be forced to be the feature back, with a spell from Wolfe every now and then. Peterson is more versatile than Benson, mainly in the passing game which is what Grossman desperatley needs. Peterson will become Rex's safety blanket. And I think Peterson runs harder than the over-hyped Cedric Benson---Did you see his RedZone run with the entire Broncos team in his face.

Things are not as dim as they look for the Bears. Their next three games against the Giants, Redskins, and Green Bay whom they have beaten this year will pretty much determine their fate.
Victories over the Giants and Redskins would aid them in tie breaker scenarios if they all were to finish with the same record at the end of the year.
Benson's injury could force them to open up their playbook more and pass the ball. The Bears ground game was averaging a little over 3 yards per carry.

benson wasn't going to decide if the bears made the playoffs or nt. devin hester has been saving the bears all season long. he's an mvp candidate. they need a consistent ground game, better play from the qb position, & their defense has got to stop people. the bears rely ontheir defense heavily to get them through the night. in the draft next year they may have to seriously consider drafting a qb int he first 2 rounds as well as a running back too along w/ a wr.

Benson has been a bust since they signed him. He is an insignificant factor anyway. What the Bears really need to be looking for is a quarterback.
Yes, I'm from Chicago, and love to watch the Bears.

I think Bensons injury will help the bears. He is a bust. No team in the league is afraid of him busting loose for big gains which is why the can blitz like they do. I hate to say it but, with no rushing game No quarterback will be good.

I think Benson's injury hurts them. Even though he wasn't exactly tearing up the league, he was able to run the ball a little. Now they'll have to rely on Grossman's arm...good luck with that.

I think it may force the other players to step up and show us what they have. A chance they might not otherwise have had.
So in that sense it does not have to be a negative. And if it
works out we may be rid of the haphazardry of the Benson game.
