I don't think it'll really have much of an effect.
That said, Bill Clinton was endlessly ridiculed for saying he tried marijuana but "didn't inhale."
Obama said that he had tried marijuana and joked that inhaling was "kind of the point." People like that kind of honestly, candor and forthrightness.
Also, Ben is misinformed: Obama never dealt drugs in his life.

At least he is honest about it. Clinton didn't inhale and Bush also did really bad drugs as well as alcohol and they were elected so, nowadays, I doubt it will have an impact except on the holier than thou crowd.

This is such an irrelevant point. Who cares if he smoked pot many, many years ago. This is so unimportant. I can't understand why some people obsess about this triviality.
What is important is how he can deal with issues that affect us such as taxes, immigration, the war, the global economy, corporate policy, safety etc.
Whether he smoked pot, swore, drank, or looked at porn, or likes baseball, skiing, or hip-hop music is irrelevant.

Well, I just think it is about time that we have an honest politician. I can't name one on either side of the eisle, Dem or Repub, except Obama. So I guess that says something for him.
And , like Nostradamus said "since he has spoken about his own past, no opponent will ever be able to make an issue out of it..."

Disclosing details of your past can only help to avoid a scandal on the campaign trail, so in a sense complete disclosure of your errs prior to campaigning can stand to help a candidate as it cannot effect their credibility in the future.

Neither hurt or help; its a mute topic. Frankly, at least he's honest; others continue to lie not only about their past drug use; but even their past sexual encounters.

A strategic pre-emption of a Hillary attack. If he didn't out it, she would have.
We are at a turning point in history. The very existence of our nation is at stake. I don't think there are enough people who want to turn that task over to some kid we would never have heard of if not for the color of his skin.
At least, I hope not.
