Hi, I'm 13 years old, and I want to try out for Mary Poppins, but I don't know how to pursue that. I don't have an agent, but I have a large range and can sing well. In the playbill of Mary Poppins it says they're always looking for kids from 4'8 to 4'10, and I'm 4'9, since I'm small for my age. How would I go about trying to audition for the show, I've looked everywhere online. London had an open casting call, but as far as I can see, Broadway hasn't had one recently. How do I do this???

The actors equity website posts broadway calls- www.actorsequity.org.

You're right, Mary Poppins doesn't appear to be casting at the moment, but The Lion King is having children's auditions the saturday!

I believe Tara Rubin is doing the casting for Mary Poppins, but CD's don't usually accept unsolicited headshots ( as in, not from an agent) . So, find some agencies in NY that specialize in children (check the Ross Reports for listings), send them a headshot and resume and in your cover letter mention that you'r particularly interested in auditioning for Mary Poppins and maybe one of them will agree to represent you and will submit you for an audition.

Otherwise, just wait for another open call!

Good luck!!

The last casting I saw for this was late summer and although you sound like you breakdown for it, if they're not casting you'll just have to wait until another call comes out. Keep checking casting call on the equity site and if there's a call, GO whether you're equity or not. You just have to be willing to join if you get the role. That will basically shut you out of non-union roles from then on unless you file for a waiver, but that will all come in good time. Of course you would take the part if you were offered it :-)

Until then, make sure you keep training and are ready for the audition when it comes up. Do you take voice lessons? Do you go to dance classes? Do you have a repetoire of audition songs at the ready? Do you attend acting classes? Are you building your resume by working in shows locally? Do you have headshots and do you update your resume regulary? Have everything in place and you'll be good to go.

good luck,
Marianne

Try in Manhattan , NY at the theater plays it, on 42 St between Broadway and seventh Avenue to offer your talent.
Go in the theater and ask for the coreographer or the director of the show.
Do you have the show starring July Andrews in it, you'll mention to them how magnanimous you found it etc.
