I was watching a show called Gangland on History Channel, and it was talking about all the prison gangs, and how they spread outside, and I realized that the more inmates, the more members, the more violence INSIDE prisons, as well as outside. Are we just recruiting gang members?

It runs deeper then that, its about survival. That was a good show thou, included some older footage, but I watch history channel to much. But its not the prison system per-say, it's societies use of the prison system. So we can't really tear down how f'd up the prison system is, we need to tear down how f'd up society IS thinking that prison systems cure anything. Its just a temporary treatment for a social dilemma that combines so many different factors. Identity, legacy, purpose, self-esteem, this runs deep......

we need a new treatment, anything less then that, is just going over the same old ground....

Yes. I know because I worked inside one in Texas. Gangs are growing by leaps and bounds inside these prisons. We had to learn gang symbols, tattoos, etc. and be prepared (I was a teacher, not guard). I don't think average citizens are recruiting gang members by having so many inmates in a prison. It is a part of our society now, inside and outside the razor wire fences. Inmates are given too much freedom, rights, etc., not enough hard work.....not enough hard time. Just my opinion!
