My DH and I started ttc in Oct. I ovulated mid Oct. and got AF Oct. 30. For the next cycle I started to chart BBT. It looks like I o'd around Nov 13. I thought we timed everything pretty well this month. We BD Nov. 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, and 12, but low and behold, AF arrived today Nov. 27 sending me into a new cycle. So, I want to chart a little better this month and try opk but I am so confused. I had a temp dip around Oct. 13 way below my baseline of 97.8 than my temps were up around 98.2 and stayed there till Sunday when they slowly fell to 97.8. Does the temp climb happen after O?
Next question, if I use opk, what day in my cycle do I start? I am a very dependable 28 day cycle. And how do I know when I will ovulate by using one?

Just as a side note... we already have a 3 year old who was conceived completely unplanned. So we do know it's possible for us. I think we jus got very lucky with our son!

Ovulation happens before your temp rises, typically the day before you see a rise. So if your temp went up and CD14 and remained up for at least 3 days in a row then you can safely assume you o'd on CD 13. After you see the temp rise the egg is dead and gone.
Here's a chart for helping determine when to start using OPK, for you, CD 11, or Dec. 7th. http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/opk.html

as far as the temps, your temps after ovulation should be higher than before and stay higher up until the day before or day of your next expected period. your temps falling on Sunday was your indication that AF was about to begin.
Now for the opk question, when you will go out and buy the opk, it will tell you on what days you should test depending on your cycle length. Go to the dollar tree and buy a couple, these are only a $1 a piece and work just as good as the more expensive ones. you can test once a day until you get your (+). remember on the opk's both lines must be the same color or the test line must be darker than the control line for your test to be (+). when you get your (+), this is an idication that you are about to ovulate so if i were you i would BD on that day you get the (+) and 2 days after just to cover all your bases.
good luck

If you have a dependable 28 day cycle, here's all you need to do at this point.

Abstain from days 8 to 11 (give DHs swimmers time to build). Do the baby dance on day 12, and day 14 (abstain on day 13).

You don't want to go dancing everyday, DH needs time to rebuild a supply. He might seem ready in less than two days, but the swimmer count will not be up to par if he doesn't allow at least two days between dancing.

And if he hasn't already, get him to switch to boxers.

And on another note, TTC is not as easy as it seems. Yes, some couples will C on the 1st month they TTC, but on average, you can expect 3 to 6 months... assuming there isn't anything wrong. You also have a 10% chance that you will fail to TTC within 12 months, at which time you start getting evaluated for fertility issues.

They say you should start testing about 5 days before predicted ovulation.
