chaos. Because of the influence of the Republican Party.
Now if you can enlighten me, please do so now.
Or forever hold your peace. What good has this
way of life done, for the country at large ? Best answer wins.

Republicans have hijacked the
moderate Conservative mind.
So what you are seeing now, is
Neo Conservatism. And it is a
factor, in the long run, and it is all
still the same. The same tree, rather.
It is still a nut, from the same tree....

I was a conservative as a kid. Conservatism has appeal because the answers are so simple. It validates all your primitive feelings, your greed, your prejudices because it is not based on analysis or synthesis, but just on opinion. Data is not needed, facts are irrelevant. Give them a slogan, something easy to remember.
Conservatism has very attractive slogans. "Get The Government Off Our Backs" for example. Which translates to gays can't get married and even if you are terminal with cancer you can't smoke cannabis to ease your chemo.
Its just a smoke screen, its a diversion. The real focus of the Republican Party remains what it has been ever since Lincoln was shot--to enrich the few at the expense of the many. It has been playing the same game for over 100 years. President Grant kept gold off the market while two of his Republican buddies were cornering the market and making themselves vast fortunes and by the way throwing the country into the panic of 1873.
It is pathetic that the middle class got conned into voting against its own interests. Reagan, Bush 1 and this Bush have been utter disasters for the middle class and for the country as a whole; it may never recover. The wealthy are sure doing well, and that was the whole point, even if the country goes broke.

First of all I consider myself a conservative, Bush is not a conservative--at least not fiscally conservative. You really can't put a political label on conservatism. it is more a attitude towards the world.
The only thing I want from our government.
Protect our borders,
Maintain our roads and infrastructure.
Only help those that desperatly need it and not those that are lazy and milking the system.
Provide defense and basic law enforcement, other than that I need nothing else from the government and it should be a lot smaller than it is.
The private sector is always better than the government.
NOW MY THOUGHTS>>>>
What we are seeing is a great seperation of right and left, 25 years ago democrats and republicans could get along, now it is so divided that people regardless of their true deep down thoughts view the other party as the most far right or far left you can possibly be, when that is not the case.
What is liberalism--Most conservatives would say it is basically wanting a communists government, when 99% of libs don't want that, but then again reverse that question and that is how libs view conservatives.
We need to overcome this divide or we will destroy our country from within. Regardless of political affiliation both republicans and democrats in congress have not truely served the people, thay have served their interest and gaining power for themselves. They have forgotten that the people rule this country. We The People....

Conservatism is a term used to describe political philosophies that favor tradition and gradual change, where tradition refers to religious, cultural, or nationally defined beliefs and customs. The term is derived from the Latin, com servare, to preserve; "to protect from loss or harm". Since different cultures have different established values, conservatives in different cultures have differing goals. Some conservatives seek to preserve the status quo or to reform society slowly, while others seek to return to the values of an earlier time, the status quo ante. Many conservatives in America say that its founding fathers believed in God and that "rights endowed by their creator" are the basis for the U.S. Constitution. [1]
Conservatism as a political philosophy is difficult to define, encompassing numerous different movements in various countries and time periods; there may sometimes be contradictions between alternative conceptions of conservatism as the ideology of preserving the past, and the contemporary worldwide conception of conservatism as a right-wing political stance. For instance, as one commentator questions, "who are the 'conservatives' in today's Russia? Are they the unreconstructed Stalinists, or the reformers who have adopted the right-wing views of modern conservatives such as Margaret Thatcher?"[2]
Samuel Francis defined authentic conservatism as “the survival and enhancement of a particular people and its institutionalized cultural expressions.”[3] Roger Scruton calls it “maintenance of the social ecology” and “the politics of delay, the purpose of which is to maintain in being, for as long as possible, the life and health of a social organism.”[4] Conservatives believe that radical change and unproven beliefs should not be quickly implemented before being tested.

It means conserving the best that's in our society today, although reviewing new ideas to see if lifestyles could be improved. It's not pandering to one group of electors, destroying the traditions of your nation by selling it down the river (UK government please note) in the hope that you can buy perpetual power.
